I was wondering if you good people could help me with this or at least provide some ideas as I'm running out of them. MrsWishy's laptop has suddenly stopped having the ability to print, the printer is showing up as still installed but it doesn't show up in any application print dialogues. The printer and network connections are physically fine as other computers can print. Attempts to interact with control panel properties end up with print spooler errors and I've also seen an active directory error (although this may have been limited to her non admin account as I haven't seen that one today).

The main suggestions I can see related to these errors involve restarting the computer and /or print spool service but neither of these make a difference and it shows up in services as starting automatically and currently running fine. I'm inclined to think that it's more of a print spooler issue than a printer one as if I delete the printer and try to re-install it, the scanner gets picked up fine (and scans) but no print capabilities are. Re-installing the print driver software also does nothing (as in does not see the printer).

The only thing I can think of at the moment is that Windows update has somehow broken the spooler as its currently trying to install what looks like a huge update. It's on Win10 ver 1607 so I guess it's trying to install ver1709 although this may take a few days on a our woeful laggyband tinternet connection. Clutching at this straw appears to be all I have left at the moment. I should probably clarify that is just in relation to this issue and everything else is fine. laugh

I could always nuke the whole thing and re-install (at least I don't have any data on it.... evil ) but I'd rather not as it seems to too specific an issue not to be able to sort directly.

That Windows 10 Creator Update did something to my Canon printer, it still worked but I got a message that there was a communication problem, helpfully told me I should go to the properties box and enable bi-directional communication. Did this and message went away. I bet the update is the problem grr grr

Good luck
