Thanks for the reply. It's a 20VT Moon Grey 6 Speed with Plus body kit. I've owned the car 15 years and most of the history was at Motormech (Reg M20 VTC). It's due for tax and insurance at the end of the month and I just want to move the car on. It drives well - oil pressure is always above 2.8bar. The car was never driven hard - you can check out the history in your files. Paintwork isn't great, MOT in 2016 was no advisories, 2017 there were 2 advisories. I just don't want the trouble of keeping a car going I wish to move on now.

Would like it to go to a member really.

Mileage is 127,000. It's got full service history - a private reg. plate and a full set of spare alloys. I'm not looking for a great deal for it but I'm struggling to advertise it on here. I was trying to list it in March but things got in the way. Is Theresa away on holiday?

The second MOT check eight days later (with the same mileage) shows nothing at all, so the work appears to have been done

If this is the case, the valuation on the car is entirely dependent on the quality of the repairs, so a lot more information is needed before we can take a guess at value

That's correct, I had all the work undertaken on the car in 2016 to get it through the MOT so it would show nothing in after the 2016 MOT.

Firstly, well done for putting the money into the car in 2016 - many people would have walked away from a fail list like that

Secondly, anyone looking to buy a Coupe nowadays will be doing their research, so they will easily find the information above and they'll also trawl this forum for buyers' guides etc

If I was looking to buy a car that had failed an MOT on corrosion-related issues, my first question would always be - "who did the work?" If it was Joe at FCSS, John at MCS or Paul at Motormech (other garages are available...), that would be enough for most buyers to be comfortable that the job had been done to a high standard. If the work was done by a back-street garage for a couple of hundred quid as a back-hander, then any buyer would rightfully be concerned that the problems will come back fairly soon.

The answers to questions like these will make the difference between it being worth £1,500 and £4,500

I'm not looking at anything like that on the price to sell - more like £500.

I've had my enjoyment out of the car - it put a smile on my face for 13 years every time I got into it but it's time to move it on. I have an Audi A5 as my main car so keeping this going is just a waste for me.

I want to sell it for the price of parts. I'm sure someone will give it the attention it deserves.

Car is now gone. New owner picked it up today after being the first to enquire this afternoon. Had a good look around it, we test drove it and the car drove as it has always has done. I guess it looked like a case of if it's too good to be true it probably is. Congratulations to the new owner, I just wanted it to go to someone who would restore it, it was still very much road worthy.

Car was road worthy - I was still driving it. I tried to contact you at Motormech before the first enquiry came ih (they said you only work Saturdays). I guess that is water under the bridge now.

I’ll be honest - if you had said the car was too rusty for economical repair, I would have been interested in buying it for spares. We always need a supply of good spares, but I’ll never break a car that could have been saved with a modest amount of effort / money

However, Motormech doesn’t have enough free workshop time to buy a car for a speculative restoration, so if it is rescuable, I’m pleased it’s gone to a new owner that is going to keep it on the road
