Accident advice - 03/01/2019 16:31

New Years Eve and I'm stationary in a queue when the van in front decides to reverse into me , all in slomo and scrabbling for reverse gear myself , but couldn't avoid a right good thump on the bonnet.

I have a nasty feeling this is going to be an insurance write off due to lack of or cost of parts even though the the car is perfectly driveable

Been to bodyshop today who think with a lot of work they could straighten out the bonnet but a tricky job at best with all the compound curves and double skin

What are my options ? I'm guessing new bonnets not available anymore

Ideally need a bonnet, a pair of fog lights and a grill

Any suggestions welcome

You can get a GRP bonnet and grille from AutoDS :

If you're quick the 15% discount coupon for Christmas "santaclaus2018" may even still work. smile

Thanks for all your help

That fibreglass bonnet looks pretty good and much lighter smile
Can anyone give any feedback on how well it fits etc?

Otherwise a second hand one seems more available than I thought although shipping a bit tricky to Mallorca

Anyway I have ongoing discussions with insurance company over next few days
Car is a daily driver but insurance only value it at €2300 now although good 20vt going for around €6000 now

Get as many links to for sale as possible to confirm the value is higher and use those to argue with the insuarramce company.

Fibreglass bonnet is a good fit and replicates the original very well. Unless they knew I doubt anyone would notice the difference - very noticeable if you try to pick it up though!!

Hope it can be sorted.

After similar damage, I ordered a painted fiberglass bonnet which looked excellently finished at first glance and looked like it would fit pretty well.

Actually however, the slight signs of damage on the packaging which we accepted as normal actually translates into fairly massive impacts, as the fiberglass gives a long way. This has cracked the paint finish or put "spiders" in the clear coat in many places. It needs repainting.

DHL ignored us and wanted the bonnet back to the post office but the post office said it was too big to handle! So we are stuck with a damaged bonnet. If you buy one of these, buy it unpainted as, the way they are packed, they can't survive the "cheap" handling by typical delivery companies.

We found a new, primed bonnet, so our "restoration" is now booked. Not really sure what to do with the fiberglass one though - maybe a base for a racing gaming setup smile

Hoping to get a lump sum payout to cover repairs as this is outside the standard car repair programme

That suits me as I can then get on with a search for a bonnet etc - think I'll try for an original one first with fibreglass one a last resort

Has anyone tried to get new lights from Valeo - I'm going to try that too

I suspect decent used lights are your most likely and cheapest options here.

Having said that someone may say differently.

Brand new headlights are very rare in my experience. The few I came across were not in pairs either & expensive.

Remember left and right hand drive lights are different internally so make sure you get the correct type.

But they don't have any, right? Can't order them.

Most others are asking 600€ a side frown

Sorry for confusion - meant new fog lights

New headlights would be nice too!

Re: Accident advice - 30/01/2019 06:37

Slow progress with insurance but seems car will be written off but they will payout sufficient for repairs - they then cancel the insurance as a final insult!

Anyway the search is now on for a bonnet and fog/indicator lights if anybody has info
Thanks

Pm sent to Jonnyboy re lights
