Car ramps project - 03/11/2017 20:44

A record of building my own ramps for my Coupe's
*** NOW FINISHED ***

A tonne (at least) of steel

Practice on the smallest part - the lead up ramps

Start on the LONG ladders

That will be ALL of the ladder sections completed

That is a big drill

Now for the joining frames and end frames

That is looking VERY heavy now

The front ramps sections completed

I needed to cut lots of 12 degree angles

Assembling the monster sloping ramps

Now the lead up ramps need finishing

OMG they look great - I hope the car can get on them

I think they will be big and strong enough by the looks of it

Yay - Blitz got up there so easily - I am so pleased

They even cantilever great too and with the supports secured they are rock solid to work under

Any hints on which ones are not displaying for you?

Thanks jimboy - it sure did take some time and a lot of reading and measuring (again and again lol)

I will add some pics of one of my Coupes on them shortly

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 08:08

All finished and I am so pleased with the result.
More pics now too - hopefully working for all.

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 08:47

Mighty impressive BBR cool

I was wondering what the cantilever effect was designed for as I trawled through - it was clearly intended but can you explain to the uninitiated the reason for that?

Edit...I think I see now, it enables you to use the long ramp section as a horizontal one once Blitz is off the ground? So when the ramp cantilevers up slightly you have a facility for levelling it off - is it hinged?

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 09:06

Nope, most of those images not working for me, Richard. The links are *very* long; could be simply too long for the address parser?

Thanks Edinburgh - it rocks on a join between the front box sections and the long ramp section which can be bolted together at the pivot point if you want the car to be horizontal. With the Coupe complete - they balance almost perfectly making it very easy to pull up the back end to the horizontal.

All working still here Neil - now with *tiny* links (urls)

As an ex welder I know how things go. To do something like this does take a bit of time AND making sure all measurements are exact, & of course making sure the metal is welded properly. Aye Richard you've done all right there.... cool

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 11:44

Yesterdays pics loaded up fine on my iPad. But now the box's just show a blue background with a question mark Richard. Now nothing loads for me.

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 12:57

Nothing works for me, and the links go nowhere.

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 15:26

How annoying is this forum for pics?
I will sort them out later as they don't work on my mum's kindle

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 16:18

Can you put em up on FB Richard?

If you've used tinypic I don't see why they're not showing for everyone. They're fine for me confused

Did you use the "direct" link at the bottom of the choices BBR?
Posted By: DaveG

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 16:42

They were all working fine earlier today but now 5-9, 12 & 14-15 are broken. I'm very impressed by the way, similar in concept to the tilting ramps I've seen at car dealers.

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 19:17

No pics showing for me
Posted By: Blueboyracer

Re: Car ramps project - 05/11/2017 20:03

So sorry - logged in to tinypic now (thanks Edinburgh as I was using Google Photos) and re-published with new links - hope you can all see them as I have all along.

Thanks DaveG - these were designed by restorationramps for the enthusiast - plans were great - and loads of fun to build - whilst also being hard work and stressy as didn't want to produce poor welds - given that I would be underneath them lol

Re: Car ramps project - 06/11/2017 05:42

Everything working now, Rich. Looks good.

I've been eyeing the display ramps outside the car showroom on Two Waters Road, same general idea. Wonder if they'd miss them?

Re: Car ramps project - 06/11/2017 06:10

They look fantastic, job well done and i think this is something i might like for myself!

Only thing me being me i would get ultra paranoid being under the car shocked

Looking good though!

Thank you - me too about being underneath, but at least I will only have myself to blame - but I did use more welds than I needed too lol

Re: Car ramps project - 08/11/2017 12:55

I've often wondered about making some ramps like those, great to see them. I might be tempted to use something more fixed for supporting the car once it levels out rather than the clamps, just for reassurance!

Where did you get the plans?

Seriously though making up a pair of ladders to the same spec would work if supported in your garage wouldn’t it?
Posted By: barnacle

Re: Car ramps project - 11/11/2017 21:35

Freddie - no worries mate, I was slow on the flasher!

Rich, it's supporting the ladders that concerns me (and still fitting the coupe in there). Not an immediate worry.

Obviously tell me when you are coming round first ...

So I can be out ... lol

Seriously though, I am not there every weekend

Re: Car ramps project - 22/11/2017 14:32

Lol,

As if the mere presence of you now having a ramp that can be used would be my sole consideration for visiting again...so Saturday at 9:00 sharp then? hahah

I jest - but yes, we must meet up at some point- when we are both free and in the County!

Regards
