Has anybody water charged cooled a coupe before I'm thinking of doing mine any thoughts info would be appreciated

Yes was done years ago. You could try the search engine to find old threads?

Actually might have been on Nigel's car; he is still around on here.

GrahamL and I had the Pace Chargecooler kit years ago, there were several others who had it too who are still around today. You might need to look back through the "old" forum to find more info, make sure the left column is enabled in My Stuff...Edit Preferences and click on "Old Forum BACK" then follow the links to the saved versions and try the Search function. It should keep you happy for hours...

Unless you're aiming for no more than 280bhp or so and can get a used Pace chargecooler kit relatively cheap (they do appear on here occasionally), I wouldn't bother. For 300bhp+ a big front mount intercooler is better and cheaper.

Hang on, I think the OP is talking about water charge cooling and hence we are talking Aquamist, are we not?

No not aqua mist
It’s a a small intercooler that’s water fed that has its own water supply from seperate radiator so I was planning on another radiator where the front mount would usually go and put the charge cooler unit where the side mount intercooler goes hope this makes sense

The problem is that the radiator that cools the circulating water is usually small so that not much cooling is done. Also the higher heat capacity of water compared to air means that once it gets hot, the water is slower to cool down compared to air, which is when you really need the maximum cooling. As GrahamL says, a large front mount intercooler (air/air, same as existing side mount, just a lot bigger) is better.

The one I am looking at the radiator is s 795 x310 x60 mm core
The exchange is 310x410 with 1200lhr pump and was going to bolt 2 12 inch fans on the back of radiator which are on constant switched obviously so can turn them off

The pump is gravity fed so needs to be at the lowest point in the water circuit, so you'll struggle to find a spot if you put the chargecooler itself where the standard intercooler is.

Also, on the coupe the chargecooler is normally run in series with a sidemount intercooler (either the standard one or the uprated Pace side mount or clone) as there isn't space for a big one, so the pump would normally go at front right as shown in the above pics.

"Fastedd" on the old forum was the only one I remember fitting a chargecooler without an intercooler but he went for a custom double width unit and moved the battery to the boot to make space for it. That system worked for him pretty well. I thought I had some pics of that but can't find them now.

I also had a slightly different chargecooler system on my current coupe (Pace chargecooler, bigger Bosch pump + bigger Range Rover oil cooler as chargecooler radiator, mounted where FMIC would normally go), but it was too restrictive at high revs so I replaced it with a FMIC.

Bosch pump was too big for the normal spot so ended up here, at side of uprated side mount intercooler:

There were 2 different Pace chargecoolers, but the first one was slightly too tall and ended up rubbing on the top of thermostat so they changed to a smaller version :

Problem was, the bigger one was more free flowing:

Thanks very much really some good points here if I can get the charge cooler down where the intercooler used to go I can get a much larger one in plus there should be less heat transfer from the engine bay into it so will get less heat soak problem is getting the pump low enough as long as the pump is lower than the out let of the cooling radiator all should be good shouldn’t it ?

I ran a Pace chargecooler along with an uprated Pace sidemount intercooler

It was better than the OE intercooler, but not by a massive amount - I ran two separate 'radiators' for the chargecooler, but it wasn't enough - there simply wasn't enough coolant in the system or enough heat exchange to keep the coolant cool.

It was OK for modest boost increases, but it just couldn't cope after about 1.4 bar and suffered badly with heatsoak in summer.

I ended up fitting a ProAlloy front-mount intercooler and I've never looked back - it was fitted about ten years ago and has been faultless for over 150,000 miles

An adequately sized chargecooler can't cool any more than an adequately sized intercooler. The only real reason to choose a charge cooler over an intercooler is for packaging reasons, ie. there isn't enough space at the front of the car for an adequately sized intercooler. Other than that, it just adds cost, potential reliability issues and significant complexity (radiator, cooler, coolant tank, pump, wiring, air pipework, coolant pipework).

The Coupe has a tonne of space behind the front bumper for adequately sized intercoolers! The pics below are of my old 400-odd bhp Coupe with an aftermarket Evo intercooler fitted

I had the L&M charge cooler fitted to my coupé years ago. Found to be restrictive if you plan for 300bhp +.
Ended up removing and getting aquamist water injection.
