Mapping 330i (258) - 19/11/2017 07:17

Hi again,
Before you say it, yes I have joined a BWM forum again, but I don't feel as comfortable there as I do here! Sorry 😁.

This is probably a question aimed at Flea really but all input greatly received.

Are there any real gains in going for a remap on this n/a engine on a completely standard car?

Cheers

Take a look at BW chiptune, based in Hayes.
They know their BMW’s

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 23/11/2017 03:56

Their website say they have moved and the website is down at the moment. I have read a few reviews on the Bmw forums to mixed reviews.

I think I will just enjoy as it is for now and probably go for the 335i in 6 months to a year. Seems to be quite tuneable.

Also I had a look at the 335d online. It's very very fast 😎. I didn't realise that diesels have come so far! Amazing!

Nothing too exciting to be found from the 231bhp engine, it really needs further engine modifications.

The 335i (N55 series engine), that is a different beast and very tunable. I have taken these over 400bhp with very little upgrades, even as standard they will tune up very well. The 330D and 335D, again tuned many of these and they are frankly incredible for a diesel engine, just brilliant.

Thanks Flea 😎
Mines the 258 but guess it's the same principle?
I'll wait until the next one, prob a 335i, and then bring it up to you to work your magic 😁

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 01/03/2018 19:20

Hi all,
Sorry I've not been updating on my car. I've been busy settling back in the UK.

The Beemer has been good ,apart from a water pump, £938 at a stealer.

Decided not to get a remap or any other mods as I'm going to upgrade to a 335i and then tune that.😎

The best thing I did on this car was to ditch the runflats. Absolutely appalling tyres. How where they ever allowed to put these on a car like this?

I now have Michelin pilot sport 4s tyres.

I can honestly say they are the best tyre I have ever bought!

Transformed the car!

Any how hope you guys are being careful on the slippery roads.

Cheers

Hi all
Well I got bored with the 330i and lack of tuning options.

Just put a deposit on a low mileage 335i coupe. Pick it up at ythe weekend smile

Will be wanting to tune it fairly soon so watch this space wink

Looks interesting!
I was looking at the Jb4 or the master himself Flea?

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 03/05/2018 07:17

The JB4 is good, but now the F series BMW ecus have been fully unlocked for OBD tuning, it makes sense to remap fully.

I have a 125i in on Tuesday, great gains to be found!

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 03/05/2018 07:22

Hi Flea

My car is not that new. Its an 2007 335i.

Can you work your magic on it?
I will probably get an uprated intercooler first. I have been reading up on replacing the downpipes but there are mixed reviews as to the benifits.
Also I want the car ro remain legal and pass mot's.
Any recommendations appreciated.

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 05/05/2018 14:03

Hi all 😎
Well all I can say is wow!🤩

Picked the car up yesterday with a steady drive back to guildford (60 miles) steady 60-90 going with the flow. Avaraged 39mpg!😱.

Today have been getting a "feel" for the car. Its absolutely brutal! Im wondering if its already mapped???

Surely there cant be that much difference between my 330i and this?

It absolutely flies. Strange as it was owned by someone who never did more than 5k a year in it so I assumed a second car prehaps (without being sexist)for the wife.

Handling is superb for me.

Any how booked in for a bodywork detail and to get rid of those runflats again.

I think I'm goong to enjoy this car😎

Frog? you gone from a 330 to a 335?
I ask, as im looking at a 335i now smile

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 05/05/2018 16:41

Yes mate.
Took ages to find a good one with my budget. Looked at a few "fantastic condition" ones that turned out to be pigs.

Tried the convertible but found it claustrophobic.

So many spec levels so hard to find one that ticks all your boxes. I compromised a bit for good history and low milage.

Awsome car. Just pulls so hard.

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 19/05/2018 05:57

Well after seeing the "flappy paddle" shifter as a gimmick, Im kinda loving it now:)

It is not best for everyday driving but when "playing" it becomes very useful. Better than waiting for the auto to kick down. Also much better on the twisties much more control handed back to the driver.
Cant wait for the remapp wink

One anoying thing though!

I cant stop saying thank you when it passes me the seatbelt! smile

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 29/05/2018 11:12

Well here I am at Evolve waiting for my remap to commence.

Some serious looking M5 here😱

Will keep you all posted.

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 29/05/2018 11:53

What are you expecting? High 300’s?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 29/05/2018 12:27

Im expecting 360-370bhp and torque 370ish.
Everything stock at the moment but intercooler and downpipes next.

Evolves map for me is not about peak figures but a good broad power band.

Have a look on their website for stage 1 mapping. I was quite impressed thats why I chose them.

Some serious bmws here.

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 29/05/2018 18:24

So what bhp did you end up with ?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 29/05/2018 18:34

2k 130bhp T330
2.5k 180bhp T375
3k 225bhp T390
3.5k 270bhp T390
4k 300bhp T400
4.5k 335bhp T385
5k 350bhp T370
5.5k 360bhp T350
6k 371bhp T325
6.5k 370 T300

Sorry I cant post a photo of the graph so have done my best to show yiu the info.

Shame its not stopped raining to try her out.

Part throttle is noticable already.

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 30/05/2018 11:08

Downpipes and intercooler definitely to follow
Posted By: HiraethHuw

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 30/05/2018 17:37

Impressive bhp.
What does the T figure signify?

You're keen to complete the package with down pipes and intercooler. Is the remap not enough to keep you happy?

How about a fruity exhaust to complement the set up?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 30/05/2018 17:59

T = torque
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 30/05/2018 19:33

Yes T=torque

I got to play a bit today. Traction is a bit of a problem. Its on oem Bridgestone run flats at the moment. They are too new just to swap for my favorite tyre of the moment, Michelin Pilot ps4's.

Enough power for now. Pulls so hard and deosnt seem to stop pulling. Main reason for me wanting downpipes and intercooler is to help with temps and breathing.

Its fine at my current level but I have a goal of 500bhp just because I want to smile

Ive been looking at lsds to improve traction but I also have ro consider going round corners and stopping smile

If there is anyone that I can email the photo of my printout to to post on here?

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 01/06/2018 08:25

That's a big jump in torque from the map....what's the limit on the stock clutch?

Do you know what boost the map is running? I know that as stock the weeny little turbos run around 0.4 bar or something equally as low....the stock 335i i drove barely felt turbocharged.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 01/06/2018 15:11

Suba you can really feel the extra torque and from so low down. Its very rapid!i cant feel any lag at all🤔 Black magic😎

Its an auto.

Not sure of the boost but I know they dont push it at Evolve without supporting mods.

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 04/06/2018 12:04

A fair improvement there! The n54 tune really really well!
Any issues with the turbo wastegates on the turbos?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 05/06/2018 10:44

The gearbox apparently is ok for 600lb/ft apparently.I jave to do more research myself on this as there are a few different gear boxes.

Turbo wastegate not an issue so far on my car but always a potential.

These engines do have their common problems like all makes.I will just deal with them when they arise. I don't want coupe paranoia creeping in wink

Im really enjoying this map.
When I'm accelerating onto say a motorway, Im lifting off way before I join said motorway. Its amazing how this car just keeps pulling.

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 02/08/2018 10:10

What a difference from mid range to high rpm.

More torque for sure.

Will get it rr soon before catless downpipes smile

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 05/08/2018 08:53

Just ordered the Carley obdII.
Hoping I can get engine inlet temp parameters from it as well as all the other useful things on it.

Anyone used this before? I will be getting the full version.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Mapping 330i (258) - 08/08/2018 18:33

Well I now have the full Carley app.
All I can say is wow! So many parameters to view.
Checked my inlet temps last night and wot with ambient temp 23C and inlet temps starting at around 40C after ploding around to get temps up ready for about half an hour before a blast up the private road. As soon as I started makeing progress temps never went more than 12C higher than ambient and actually went less than that at some points (eyes busy on the road)
Im going to have a play with this some more. Already done some coding with regards to how my lights come on when I unlock 😎.

Code reading and clearing and much more
