Its in the back garden... it gave its life so that the green one could live. The doors, bonnet, boot and loads of other parts went to others. Mk1's are a total nightmare to find parts for as they literally are not the same car as the mk2 panda

Almost nothing is shared, different glass, engine, suspension, trim, wheels, exhaust, even things like cables seem to be different.

I found the latest mk1 that needed a lot of parts but was a lot more solid.

I wonder, Sam, how much of that was down to the off-axis pull on the MK3 - the MK1 was being pulled centrally from the two bar but the MK3 was always being pulled somewhat sideways.

Rematch!

Re: Panda vs panda - 05/01/2018 08:59

A lot of variables Neil, I think the main one is the power distribution on the mk3 favors the front, pulling away loads the rear up and this causes weight to be removed from the main power distributing wheels.
The mk1 is 50/50 and locked when in 4wd so when the rear axle loads it gets all the power the front wheels get.

The off axes pull works both ways as a variable, the mk1 cant pull it back cleanly and has to also depart energy to deal with the sideways slippage friction. Having run this test on loose ground where both cars are afforded more traction the mk3 is a clear winner but the becomes a power to weight competition when more friction is involved.
