Will they last longer than the DC01 ?, built in obsolescence and rapid wear of plastic moving parts.

The WORST machine I had ever bought.
And I will never buy any device promoted by that make again.

We've actually got a Vax.....

I’m not sure it’s fair to judge a company by one of its first ever products that was launched 25 years ago. That said, some of those early machines had lifetime guarantees - if you still had it you could probably get it fixed today.

I work for Dyson these days. No-one comes close to the amount of design effort and testing that goes into Dyson products. No company or its products are perfect though.

Though to be fair, ours are pretty damn good

Best vacs I have experienced so far, a car that hoovers as it goes? Sounds like a 80’s ground effects F1 design to me

I've still got two working DC01s, a few years ago had them both serviced when it was £50 for a service including any parts or £75 if it needed a motor. One did need a motor but for both services I swapped parts between them to get lots of new bits. I know of some others still working too.

We've had a DC05 for 15 years and bought a second hand DC07 Root 8 Cyclone about 12 years ago. Both have been solid performers. The on switch broke on the DC05, but I managed to fix it. It had some serious abuse, so I don't blame it.

I'd buy another Dyson, even second hand. The parts are fairly easy to replace.

Ok the Dyson we last had involved one of those wretched ball jobbies which made the whole unit incredibly unstable. It was the equivalent of trying to walk on rubber knees.

In addition it needed emptying every 5 minutes and the cord was far too short. The Vax had double the length and bigger capacity - customer service in Brum is pretty good too, they'll discuss and solve any issues over the phone AND know what they're talking about.

Corded vacuums are so passé

Seriously, the best cord-free products are better than corded vacuums these days.

I hate our dyson with a passion, I cannot articulate my pure hatred for our unit in to words. Its a running joke as regards how much I hate there overpriced horribly designed products. From the little battery thing I have that spins down at random during use, pulling the trigger again makes it work to the power cable that for no good reason isn't on a real system.

The most positive thing I can say about dyson hoovers is that my god it can take a beating. Literally a beating, full blown drop kicked though the house, on multiple occasions. I'm not even sure its design at this point. More the possibility of this thing being possessed and its only reason for existence is the shear kick it gets out of not blowing up so I can by a vax.

I like the Dyson vacuum cleaners, but I think you do need to pick one that's suitable for your requirements.

I've got an old 04 Dyson here, which I keep for hoovering my sitting room rug as it's the best at getting the dog hairs out of it.
I've got mainly laminate and tiles as flooring in my house and don't think the older Dysons are that great on those.
I also prefer cylinder vacuums rather than uprights, so I've got a Miele cat and dog vacuum that I've had for years and use it to hoover the car, etc.

A purchase that I delayed for a while, thinking I might regret it, was the Cordless Dyson V6 Animal.
I don't regret it at all! It's brilliant for vacuuming every day and no wires to mess around with, just unplug it and go

Is that a Dyson? People get this issue with Dyson cord-free products because they don’t wash the filter as required by the instructions. The product stops to protect the digital motor from overheating. It just needs a little bit of basic maintenance by running the filter under a tap and letting it dry naturally.

I've got one of those and agree, it's great. Now got one for the office and means the office now actually gets vacuumed rather than left to fester.

It is Dyson, I have cleaned it, its kept on charge, it can be littraly on for 2 seconds at full speed and then chucks in the towel. Its a shame as I could see it being a useful bit of kit and its the one product I actually wanted to work.

Have you tried sacrificing a chicken? If it works you'll be able to use the vac to clean up any stray feathers...

Have you called Ask Dyson?

My parents’ upright was making a horrible noise. I called Ask Dyson on their behalf (they didn’t know who I was). They told me the product was out of warranty. But they add an additional grace period. But it was past that too. So they told me they’d add a grace period to the grace period. They sent me a whole new cleaner head assembly FOC.

My money is still on the filter being blinded. Your symptoms fit that scenario perfectly. Alternatively you could get it repaired. Would be cheaper than buying an asthmatic knock-off copy.

Haha I'm with you here. Except I'm surprised yours takes a beating - mine fell to bits in about 6 months. I took it to the tip to join the other 100,000 dead Dysons. Bought a Sebo instead and never looked back.

If my expensive hoover broke in 6 months, I'd be getting a replacement or refund not chucking it. Isn't there a 5 year warranty on Dysons?

ps, I don't have any particular loyalty to Dysons, just saying...

Still have our DC01 Origin DC07 Origin, both always reliable and will outlast many things in the home. Besides if you really look after them and appreciate the engineering that is put into them they should last.

Have recent handheld V6 Origin, good suction with or without boost, though battery on lasts 20 mins, but 20 mins is enough time to hoover the stair carpet.

Got 3 dysons and one Vax.
1 dyson cleans the yard, another does the workshop and cars and the other down stairs. The vax does upstairs. Got a Dyson hand held to clean out the fire places.
None are any trouble at all. The main problem with any cleaner is people thinking they will run for ever without cleaning filters etc. My oldest dyson is 15 years old and is the yard one!!
