Mid chassis brace - 08/10/2017 20:08

Anyone used one of these and did you notice any benefits from it.
looks like a good piece of kit.

The only flex in the Coupe body is a twisting motion, and that brace won't do anything to stop it

It's purely cosmetic IMHO

What that brace is supposedly doing is preventing floor flex - it is holding the two b-pillars steady, at the floor level....

The only way to properly stiffen the Coupe shell is with a full cage

Thanks Nigel
saves me buying it for no benefit, is Omp the only makers for the roll cage.
Thanks

I believe Omp is the only maker but it would not pass scrutiny in competion.

It would be a good starting point but you would then need a fabricator to upgrade it to competion standard.

Or have a bespoke one made.

Search for "begbie" on this forum - he runs a 16VT with a full cage - not sure who made it

EDIT - found the thread - Begbie's cage is an OMP item

I designed a lower subframe brace - probably had about 70-80 of them made over a couple of years, but I haven't had any done for a while now. The demand has dried up and they have to be made in batches of 10 or more to keep the price reasonable

They definitely make a difference, especially on high-power Coupes

They crop up secondhand every now and then - price seems to range from £75 to £125 depending on condition

Re: Mid chassis brace - 10/10/2017 12:12

I have acquired one with a recent coupe purchase so am tempted to fit it as the car is running circa 310bhp

310bhp isn't high enough as recall readit

Probably best that you sell it on laugh

What are you fishing for Nigel?

Re: Mid chassis brace - 11/10/2017 12:13

I was lucky enough to find one on ebay a couple of years ago unused.
Makes a difference.
would love a roll cage, seems like a right pain to prep and install.

Re: Mid chassis brace - 11/10/2017 13:20

I've seen some installed very well indeed. Mine not so much! But its a track car.

But I have learnt a fair bit by doing my own.

Just interested me if someone had spent the money, but never fitted it

I didn't really anticipate that they would carry any real value, but it would appear that demand is easily outstripping supply, so I can see that a brand new subframe brace might easily fetch more than I used to sell them for

Oi Alexis, how long have you been in Sandhurst? Did you spend that inheritance on a nice new house?

Ah right, thought you were after one so you could make another batch up wink But I also fall into the category of having your brace, but not actually fitting it smile

Been here since Dec last year. In-laws house, so just paying minimal money to stay here, whilst the in-laws retire in Spain. Inheritance hasn't come through yet and probate has only just been granted

This thread is testament to how good this brace is... Not only are people still hankering after them 10 odd years after they were sold, but they're capable of improving handling without even being bloody fitted!! curse
