We now have the dates so get booking your long weekend off work.

It's earlier than in previous years too: 28th and 29th April 2012.

The club will be organising special coupe only track sessions as we have done in the past.

This time, following requests from participants, we have asked to be allocated 3 half hour sessions on the track rather the 2 we had previously.

I have asked the organisers for 1 coupe session late on Saturday morning, another late on Saturday afternoon and the final session on Sunday morning.

As he did last year Marcouzze from the French forum has offered to join the organising team.

Hopefully his task organising the accommodation and social side of the event will be easier this time as there is no Belgian national holiday that weekend.

As and when I have firm information about costs and programmeI will post them in this sub-forum.

At the moment a ferry crossing is £50 return with Norfolk line Dover to Dunkirk and back....very tempted

Eurotunnel however appear to be nearer £85 Folkstone to Calais and back

I know most of you went on the Eurotunnel this year, and you all may know Andrew and me went on the ferry - and to be very honest I couldnt fault it at all.

On time both ends, no fuss, no problems, food was nice, etc etc etc.

Plus stuff to look at if you get out on deck instead of stuck in the train car.

Cost circa £60 something IIRC. (booked a bit in advance)

Yes, we had no problems with the ferry last year and it was very cheap

It's just that this year, Spa fell over a holiday season and prices were quite high, so the Eurotunnel worked out cheaper for most.

Some may not wish to take part in those sessions, which would potentially allow others to join in.

At the moment, all that the club could offer latecomers would be entry to the event at a discounted price.

Nobody who had previously registered their interest will be refused. However we are reserving any remaining places for coupes.

In due course, should there be any vacant spaces after people have had the opportunity to pay, then we will consider further non-coupe entries.

It is perfectly possible for any owner of an Italian car to go to the SpaItalia weekend by subscribing directly with the organisers.

What is not possible is for more than 60 cars to be on the track in any session.

The club organises the special track sessions principally for coupes, they have priority, they are my prime concern.

I don't see a section to ask this - but perhaps some kind soul could list the necessary accoutrements required before one is allowed on the track?

There is one in the 2011 sub-forum Neil.
I was going to wait until nearer the time for 2012 before repeating it, but it can be done sooner if it helps folks.

The only one I could find was the one in the 2010 section, Pete, which implied helmets required only for the Scuderia (and presumably not for the coupe only tracks).

That's about it Neil.

Helmets must be worn, other than that our insurers will insist that drivers wear gloves, but that is not a track requirement.
The insurers will also insist that participants have blood alcohol levels below the legal limit for driving on the road.

I will be able to expand further when I see the insurance policy for next years event.

To quote Article 6 - Access to the track - from the contract the club has signed:

I will check later but my understanding is that children under 15 are allowed to be passengers in cars taking part in the Grande Parade sessions.

I'll be leaving from Barnacle's house around 3pm so it'll be a late train for us.

Dad and I are booked on the 9:50am train from folkestone on Friday morning.

Reubs, I'm also going to be booking on the 9.50am Eurotunnel, after staying in the travelodge in Ashford Thursday night.

Sound will book that on the route over and likely 1600 or 1800 one back on Monday.

The fact the cars were packed 3 inches from each other last year and the person in front couldnt drive put me off the train as trying to make a claim on the insurance whilst in the euro-tunnel wouldnt be easy.

They will be able to park with us even if they don't buy the tickets through the club.

Car, driver and 1 passenger are included in the ticket, extra passengers are 12€ for the weekend if bought in advance, but there are normally normally spare passenger seats in some cars anyway.

Yes, so long as it has an ACU sticker or equivalent on it, which I think they all do anyway.

I have never known our helmets to be checked before going on track there yet.

If I book directly or Pay on the day can I go on track with the Club cars and can I use the club track Insurance? For various reasons I Haven't been on forum for about 5 months so missed all this and could kick myself.

Sorry, but you won't be able to go on track with the others unless I can arrange something with the organisers.

If I can, you will need to pay the club an additional £70 on top of what you pay for your entry ticket to cover the coupe track time and your share of the insurance against damage to the track (the club is paying the majority).

Please let me know if you want me to arrange this ASAP.

Please note this insurance does not cover damage to your car or other peoples' cars, it is simply there to protect members against the cost of any damage they may do to the circuit.

You may be able to arrange track cover for your car individually through Neil Willies Insurance. (Sarah on the forum.)

Are there age restrictions for passengers on track? I want to bring my son who is 12. Will let you a by tomorrow night for sure. Just need to weigh all this up as I'm off on Holiday at weekend for 5 days which gives me even less time to get organised if I decide it's on. Many thanks for even considering me at this Late stage.

For our sessions and all the Scuderia sessions there is a minimum age of 16 for passengers.

For the Grande Parade sessions, which are not part of our package , I believe the age limit is 11 but can find no reference to it on their website. I have seen children around that age in those sessions in the past

edit. I'm sure there will be people around to keep an eye on your son during track sessions while you are on the circuit, not everyone is going on track.

15 years is the min age for Track Sessions and not sure if Grande Parade slots still available. Dont want to take my Lad all the way there and not have him go round track. Got Trackday Insurance already. Everything is looking good apart from Hotels. The Hotels Le Midi and La Source are fully booked\(missed last room by 30 mins). Chalets at Eau Rouge I cant find out about until they reply to email tomorrow. I would much prefer to be embedded with the rest of you guys, so if chalet not available(tomorrow)or Grande Parade slot I'll probably reluctantly leave it till next year.

Grande Parade slots have been available on the day each time I have been, that's every year since 2007.

Get to the circuit office at 9am on Saturday and you will be fine.

edit If you book on line with them you should be able to book a Grande Parade session in advance.

Last year I used yellow stuff pads on standard LE Drilled Discs and they worked a treat. I also changed my brake fluid to halfords 5.1

We got a couple of bottom of the range helmets from Hein Gericke (eventually!) for about thirty-five quid each - but I think we got lucky with end-of-range stuff.

Next question is > Does the Grande parade require the use of Helmets. If so I need another Helmet for me lad.

The answer is no, so one helmet will be sufficient.

OK got my Spa Tickets,
got my Eurotunnel tickets,
got my Hotel in Belgium,
got my Helmet today.

Helmet is V tight inside car and I hit the roof when on undulations so not good. If only the Steering Wheel extended a bit more i could get it a bit more comfortable.
I need a Helmet about >3 ml smaller and I'd get comfortable.

So does any body know of different helmet type/brand that has small circumference for use in-car.

Or is there a clever easy way of lowering the seat?

Yes. All permutations lead back to - I need more head room, and a smaller volume helmet would probably do it. but where how to find one, as its only internal sizes and no other dimensions are given.

If so i cant drive them without a helmet on let alone with one.

You have to slide the seat all the way back and put your derriere further forward on the seat.

Darlo Nicks pal Johhny squeezed into Nicks coupe. And he is a big lad.

no sunroof. I can put the backrest back which gives me more headroom but I can't drive comfortably as my arms are at full stretch. Going forward (with backrest back)doesnt help as my legs are too long.
There must be a smaller outersize helmet but nobody mentions that in descriptions

At 6"3 I can squeeze in with helmet but it's uncomfortable and I don't want to drive Spa that way if at all possible. I had same problem when I drove a Sierra Cosworth a few years back with Helmet on and it wasn't enjoyable as it put strain on my neck. It so frustrating as another few millimetres and it would be fine.

Im 6ft2 and 18 (Cough) stone and find the LE seats go further back which your helmet fits nice into the pitch of the roof.
My helmet is quite loose so it might be if yours is tight its not locating on the melon fully.

Failing that maybe a bucket seat will perhaps lower the height a little.

Your a wee bit heavier than me so you'll compress the seat more
And of course you are an inch smaller .
I need less than half that and I can get my ideal comfy position

Last year the insurers said that we did have to wear gloves, although this year the policy states that
"(e) helmets and appropriate protective clothing are worn by all participants during any insured Activity"

Last year I took a pair of light leather gloves to wear on track.

The scrutineers on the circuit only check that participants are wearing crash helmets.

If anyone wants gloves, or their insurance states they must, i can get some for nothing.......just let me know

Can anybody recommend a fairly in expensive internal camera mount(not suction) for the Coop. Also a Phone mount(non suction)

I've also got a couple of old digital cameras not doing much. Would I be allowed to strap them to car somewhere for outside video round spa(weather permitting) anybody done this?

Sarah from Neil Willies has confirmed that the protective clothing the insurers expect us to wear are helmeta and gloves as last year.
No need for them in the Grande Parade seaaions though.

There is a shell garage selling V power in Stavalot or Malmedy i think.

Looking at the exhibitors list on the SpaItalia website, there doesn't seem to be very many of the more exotic supercars registered... Does that indicate that there will be a poorer turnout than last year - maybe due to the earlier date?

Weather wise,we have already found out that June is risky. Be prepaired for all types of adverse weather.

They have a record number of participants registered for 2012. So doesn't sound too bad.

The priority that the circuit sells time to event organisers is

1) Formula 1
2) Other race events
3) Other events, such as SpaItalia.

So you can see that there were more track events than in previous years during May and June.

Record numbers sounds good, but from the exhibitors list you can count the number of De Tomaso's (for example) on one hand. To me, that's disappointing, but of course I'm still excited and hope it's just as good as last year.

How many DT's were there last year?

Grrrr... just discovered that Green Flag (the original, with whom I have been a member for at least twenty years, not the recent Direct Line upstart of the same name) won't cover the coupe for continental recovery on grounds of age - over 15 years...

Channel Tunnel won't do it either, same reason.

About £65 a year if bought separately from insurance from memory.

There were loads. Ok, the Pantera was a 'featured' car for its 30th anniversary, but clearly the owners weren't inspired enough to register again for this year. I distincly remember there being a fair few Lamborghinis last year but only 4 on the exhibitor list this year.

There are track passenger rides with Lancia Stratos, Alfa TZ1, Ferrari's,... and they have 15% more subscriptions than last year. I hope it's not just crazy Italians in Fiat Uno Turbo's. And all depends on the weather of course.

Probably due to the fact that i overtook most of them last year and they didnt like being beaten by a 15 year old coupe worth £1500 driven by a fat bald bloke.

Marco, I've got space in my car from Ashford to Spa and back (on Sunday). Senny Dave is coming out there with me, but otherwise the back seats are free. Plus it's not a coop (Octavia) so there's plenty of space for people & luggage.

As for the weather: for the last 5 years the last weekend of April has been literally BRILLIANT here in Belgium - Flanders. I know because I spent that specific weekend for the last 5 years playing our local badminton tournament (which I'll miss out on this year!) and I've always hated being inside because it was 30° outside. So I'm not worried about the weather. [Famous last words. At least my stickers are waterproof.]

Well, last night I was getting all the car docs together, logbook, insurance, MOT, oh sh!t, MOT expired. So one very hastily arranged MOT this morning, and thankfully with a pass, I'll be heading down to Ashford later this afternoon for a good nights kip before the 8am ferry.
