Im going to the notorious heartbreaker dyno (Surrey rolling road) on thursday, to see if i'm fueling ok as barbz has fitted a 3.5" race cat to my car so potentially going to see more ponies if fueling is good, it certainly feels it on the road..or maybe its the weather?
whish me luck...lets se if i can crack 320hp on this "realistic" bad boy of a dyno!

Yeah that sounds good mate, the only way I know is M25 then north circular, but M25 at that time is awful, just thinking if you know any other routes, otherwise M25 it is. Can meet anywhere in walton where there is some space for cars, then we can take off from there. Maybe outside Zio Italian restaurant where the Plough pub used to be, or the road next to Homebase avoiding the car park as its always busy, around 6.15 pm? Unless you want to go a different route or have any other ideas, I'm easy.

Slight overboost to 1.3 but is it set for 1.2, looks prety steady at 1.2, tails of to 1.1 at rpm limit. You could have gone higher than that surely, 1.4? But maybe not without extra cooling/aquamist. Are you running 95 RON? Fueling at around 12 AFR does look a little high (ie: lean), with my wideband I see around 11 IIRC, and according to Flea it was mapped to mid 11's. With my R turbo, aquamist, 1.4 bar boost and 99 RON with 3.8 FPR(but otherwise similar spec) I'm a bit behind you, but not far (325). Of course if you really want to push boost, try 1.7 (where Flea got me 336 )

running on v-power
boost controller is set to 1.3bar but dosen't hold it. always starts tailing straight away.....i think this maybe to do with my actuator being 0.6bar but to be fair i don't want to push it to much further as im on std internals and 320lbft is probably enough!
my injectors are maxed out so 3.8bar reg is prob the next step?

Get it back on the road Kenno, has yours still got an RSR or am I thinking of someone else? Back in the day mate was selling his AX-GT, some kind of bolt had snapped so he decided to replace it before the people turned up, he took an angle grinder to it just as they parked up and walked up the drive, all they could see was my mate with sparks coming out from under the bonnet......they turned around and walked back down the drive.

Barbalicious is doing a few tweeks to mine, adjustable FPR, stronger actuator and hopefully turning my H&S dogpipe into a true 3". I am trying to get it to hold 1.3bar boost better and give it enough fuel, might get it back on the heartbreaker to show everyone down the pub.

So Flea what have you and your guys been doing on the rollers you use?
Biggenz, I wonder what Charlie has been doing though down at SurreyRollingRoad? Not many 5 pots around really, so I wonder....

so in order to get a good reading from 1 of these dyno's,do 2 runs 1 in 4 pot mode and the other in 6 pot mode, then average the 2?

Ok, there was a marginal difference with the different settings. 20bhp. My car was down 60bhp!
Which ever way you look at it, you could never tell whether a dyno is accurate or not. Only when you use an engine dyno, but a lot of people/tuners take their cars to Surrey RR and everyone I've ever spoken to says it's very close.

Yeah I always hear its a pretty accurate dyno too. A few people say about these Maha dynos, I think there is one near Crawley/Gatwick way. Maybe one day.....

If you're talking about Austec Racing, they have actually replaced their Maha dyno with a Dyno Dynamics one!
When I spoke to them, they said their dyno is not there for giving people the 'feel good factor', but for accurate results. They even said that Charlie's dyno over reads!!

I found New Fixed Ramp Rate this about Dyno Dynamic ramp rates. It should be remembered that that any dyno which plots torque/power against RPM has to use some ramp rate (i.e. rate of change of engine speed) in order to produce a plot, and therefore any such plot is always going to be somewhat artificial. But having use a Dyno Dynamics rolling road for mapping myself, when the rollers are set to hold a given RPM so that fuel/ignition can be set against engine load/throttle position/boost I can tell you that the levels of torque and power achieved by an engine under that situation are always higher than in 'shoot' mode . This is simply because the engine is loaded to the point where it can't accelerate, which is where maximum output is achieved for any given engine speed. A plot of torque/bhp against engine speed made up of all points measured in the 'rpm held' state used for mapping gives the highest output figures. It would be fair to say that the engine output shown would be accurate whilst at the same time not being 'real world' - i.e. in the real world you would expect the car to be accelerating at some rate at wide open throttle from x rpm through to y rpm. The different 'shoot modes' offered by Dyno Dynamics are analogous to measuring the engine power on the road, but by driving up hills of different gradients. Going back to the link posted by Flea, the RS when running in 6 cylinder mode was shown to be producing more power than in 4 cylinder mode, which indicates that the loading on the rollers is higher in 6 cylinder mode giving a slower ramp rate. There is nothing wrong about the 347bhp figure - it is not the dyno adding some artificial power to what the engine is putting out. However, it may be that the engine would not deliver that in the real world when accelerating on the flat with little aero drag (i.e. in 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd gear) but would going up a steep hill (in any gear) and at higher road speeds where aero drag is significant.

Would it be safe to say that all Dyno Dynamic dyno's are calibrated the same or similar?
