Yes, that will work OK, but I'd get one with a rolling code as it's bit more secure.

I got this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360645494195

you don't need the solenoids, just a negative output to trip the existing solenoids.

If you have the blue connector beside the fuse box you can pull that out and splice the alarm loom into the blue connector loom.

Very easy if you have the custom Meta loom with the blue connector from the car and then use the following Meta diagram to work out all the wire colours:

The 12 pole, 6 pole and LED connectors from the diagram all terminate into the single blue connector, providing everything you need.

First remove the custom Meta loom from the car (Blue connector end plugs into socket next to fuse box and provides all necessary connections to the car loom) and cut off the connectors at the Meta alarm end.

Then take the loom supplied with the new remote locking box and cut short all the wires about 8" from the connector.

Now just a case of following the remote locking box fitting guide (coupe uses negative switching for door locks so follow that part) while looking at the diagram above to splice together the required wires from remote locking loom to the custom Meta loom.

Only needs about 6 wires to be joined between the looms.

You end up with your own custom cable where one end plugs into the new remote locking box and the other end plugs into the car at the blue connector near the fuse box.

Hi,

I've been following this thread, as I also have a remote CL kit from ebay (that was a Birthday Pressie). So, I thought I would have a go at installing it after reading this post, as the idea of connecting into the meta alarm loom seemed a very neat way of installing this remote locking unit.

However, although I've got a 20VT (1998), I don't seem to have the meta box or meta loom? I've removed the side panels and even removed the bolts from the fuse/relay box to get a really good look behind it and it isn't there...? There is a blue connector at the side of the fuse box, but it has only got 9 wires going to and from it, and is routed into a load of other wires into the main loom, so this can't be the meta alarm connectors, can it?

So I guess my only option is to add the CL kit to the ECU box looms under the driver's seat (From posts on the forum I think that ECU controls CL, windows, boot light, interior light etc). It has two large connectors on one end of the ecu, and one smaller connector on the other end.

Before I go cutting wires, can anyone help me find the correct wires. I think I need to work out which wires;

1. Locks the CL
2. Unlocks the CL
3. Controls the indicators to flash them?
4. +12V supply

I have searched the forum, and think the unlock might be the blue wire in the small connector and the lock might be the white wire in the same connector? Does anyone know if that's correct, and does anyone know which wire(s) I need to connect to flash the indicators?

I've setup the ebay unit to "negative trigger" - so I guess it should work with the Coupe CL system, once I find the correct wires to tap?

Any help/guidance much appreciated. Many thanks, Phil

The socket for the Meta loom is also light blue and is in the row of connectors at the side of the fusebox. If you've got an empty blue socket there then you don't have the Meta loom.

Easiest solution would probably be to get one of the Meta looms, try contacting Nigel as he may have one from a scrapped coupe.

That sounds like a really good plan.

However, after looking again, I don't think the car ever had the meta alarm or the wiring for it. I think I have a really strange set-up. I don't think the car ever had the meta or scorpion alarm in my 20vt - hence I don't have a light blue connector. Looking at posts on the forum, I think the car has/had the really old alarm (found in early 16v models), with what looks like an IR fob, (the fobs have never done anything with the car). They are square (with rounded corners), one round button in the centre, and LED in the top RHS corner that flashes when the button is pressed, and a 'window' at the front where you can see an led flashing when you press the button, a little like the remote on a tv?). It's like this one in this post Sirgfreid: Re: Alarm problem (round fob)

The blue connector I found near the fuse box, is dark blue and both male/female joined together (not a spare socket), with only 9 wires on both the female and male connectors, so I don't think this is the meta wiring?

I'm a little lost on the alarm, so think my only option is to somehow use the box under the drivers seats to remotely control the cl. Any thoughts/help gratefully received. Thanks. Phil

The car may have been an import or a forces spec car. Only the UK had alarms fitted as standard IIRC due to insurers insistence.

Yes, 9 wires on the blue connector sounds about right.

Does the side of it that comes downwards from the connector next to the fusebox have a black sheath around the wires? If so, that'll be the Meta loom.

It's about 30-40cm long, so shouldn't be all that hard to trace, although sometimes the alarm box can be pushed into a space behind/above the fusebox that's completely out of sight from below.

Bockers: Thanks, got it taped together for a quick test, and it successfully locks/unlocks doors. Brilliant, thanks.

You wouldn't know if this ecu (under the seat) has indicators wires going to it as well (as that would be really good to flash the indicators at the same time as lock/unlock doors)?

Graham: The connector doesn't have a black sheath. I've looked everywhere for the meta alarm, but I can't find it. Looks like I might have a force's spec car without the normal UK alarm as suggested by Bockers?

Possible, in which case the aftermarket alarm may be plugged into the blue connector. I can't see anything but an alarm system being plugged in there.

The alarm wires: The wires from one end of the blue connector go off behind the carpet on the floor, the other end goes into a big loom. The connector I found is not light blue, it's a dark blue connector. I can't find a light blue connector in my coupe - so looks a little odd and getting beyond my grasp. Thanks to the ECU under the drivers seat and the post highlighted by Bockers, I can now remotely open/close the CL, but I haven't connected to the indicators, so don't flash with the remote CL. Would you know where else I could pick-up the L&R indicator wires to make them flash?

The indicator relay is under the dash end panel (driver's side) so you should be able to hook in around there somewhere, or at the hazard lights switch on centre console maybe.

I have a scorpion alarm fitted as standard to the car so will I have the same plug by the fuse box as the meta alarm ?

Not sure, my coupes have been February '98 and April '99 and they both had Meta alarm units with the blue connector loom.

The short loom from the blue connector to the Meta alarm is definitely part of the Meta install kit, as shown in this pic:

but the light blue connector at the fuse box (which provides all the necessary connections to the car's loom) is obviously part of the car and not installed with the alarm.

Whether it was installed on all coupes or only after '98 or so when they were fitting Meta alarms I don't know, but it seems likely that it was always part of the factory loom.
