I was considering moving away from them this year, especially when the renewal came through with another set of re-valuation & Mods forms.

However, after speaking with several other brokers I was getting a bit fed up of listening to restrictions and failure to offer similar terms. So I called Glynwood and was told that I didn't need to re-submit the valuation and mods lists if nothing had changed. I just needed to send them the mileage declaration.

Quote for Fully Comp Garaged Coupé in Cambridgeshire.
All mods declared and covered.
SDP including commuting.
£250 compulsory excess only.
Agreed value.
Euro cover.
Legal expenses cover.
Limited to 5000 Miles PA.
Salvage retention after total loss &
UK Breakdown including Homestart cover.

£274, I'm reasonably happy with that smile

Bob Have you sorted the agreed value?
The only thing that annoyed me with Glynwoods (probably their Broker) is they wont give me an agreed value as i dont park it in a garage! so thinking it was part of the policy i felt a bit annoyed about this!

A bit strange that, as I don't have a garage and park my coupe and the X1/9 on the drive and there has never been a problem with agreed value. I renewed my cover with them a couple of days ago.

If I were you I would call their Redditch branch manager Paul Bussey, 01527 591057.

I can confirm what Bob has just said, I was speaking to Glynwood yesterday, clarifying that they were still offering the terms that MarioCirillo and I agreed when we originally negotiated the scheme with Neil Willies back in 2012.

The agreed Value was arranged the previous year. I completed their paperwork, took high resolution photographs and had an independent verification undertaken. This agreed value is confirmed on the Glynwood paperwork and the Policy document. So yes I suspect it is all sorted.

Just dug out the letter and this is what it said

With regards to the above your insurers have advised that unfortunately due to the vehicle being kept on the public road, they will not be able to offer an agreed value for the vehicle.

Any claim will therefore be based on the market value of the vehicle at the time of the loss and they will proceed on this basis.

Yours sincerely

I feel annoyed by this as I don't recall any mention of conditions when I took out the insurance!
Was a good price but I will certainly consider looking else where at renewal!

Just rang up Glynwood for a quote and they said that the car needed to be at least 20/25 years old

I have emailed their branch manager letting him know of your experience David.

As DaveG said, Marie jones is the best one to talk to.

Edit Was it for the coupe or for an Alfa, David n3dsd?

He did say that he had an enquiry for an Alfa which was too young for them today, must have been another one then.

Thanks for clarifying it.

This has now happened to me grr

My insurance was due on 25th April and it's taken Equity Red Star (through Glynwood) over six weeks to let me know they can't do an agreed value on a non -garaged coupe.

Similarly to H_R I feel they've been neglectful in informing the customer of this policy change well before the renewal date.

A recorded delivery letter was sent to me on 13th June which didn't arrive till 16th June which was the morning I left on the North of Scotland tour for 4 days - have just collected the letter from the sorting office now and find I have until the end of today to sort it before they cancel cover !!

Btw Marie Jones has now left Glynwood.

As I'm pushed for time I'd appreciate any feedback from peeps in a similar situation where they were able to obtain an agreed value with on-street parking smile

Not sure who Marie Jones is, but as mentioned above, Paul Bussey is the one you need to speak to.

I spoke to him either Tuesday or Wednesday and have renewed my Coupes insurance.

Mine isn't garaged, but is kept on the drive when I'm at home and overnight.

I have been a loyal customer to Glynwood for many years and I appreciate the custom policy for fccuk members but I'm struggling with my renewal quote of £377! My car is modified and all declared (360bhp) and I drive my car less than 3k a year as it's my second car and it's garaged.

Classic line comes in at £254 with exactly the same policy provider but the only difference is no buy back option if written off!

Glynwood tend to use Equity Red Star as their go-to in my experience.

Seems like ERS are making deals less attractive these days which is potentially damaging for Glynwood's business as some may be tempted to go for cheaper options - especially if cars kept ungaraged can no longer be eligible for Agreed Value policies.

Glynwood have been taken over by / sold out to Academy.

Their letter states nothing will change; let's see.

Last year I moved away from Glynwood and what was sold as an agreed value policy turned out not to be; the same company (ERS) as had previously insured mine at £10k would only agree a maximum of £5k - I was less than pleased. Back to Glynwood this year and once again ERS have it at £10k.

Go figure.

Yes, just received this communication from Glynwood - although I like the personal service I was disappointed last year when ERS suddenly changed their mind about an agreed value after having done it for years. This was six weeks into the new insurance period...
Still tempted to retry Adrian Flux this spring if this policy persists.

The *big* problem is that what we want is a policy which will return a fixed sum, sufficient to restore any random coupe off the bay to the condition of the one we have.

What is generally offered is a thing which offers a 'market value' and the problem is that there is no sane market value; the good ones so rarely come up for sale that what is visible are the 1500 quid specials.

Of course, if every time a for sale coupe comes up for discussion we didn't pan the price down...

So then, which insurer do we reckon is a good one for proper "Agreed Value". I can't say who I went with last year, but I'm looking to change this year, to one who does a proper "Agreed Value", and not limited mileage, well not 3000 or less.

Lancaster Insurance Services

Tel: 01480 484848

Just tell them you want an agreed valuation for whatever value you want cover for. This service costs 17 pound I think and then you send photos, receipts, service history, documents etc through a link they send you via email and they review all info and decide the valuation which may be higher or lower than you wanted.

Cheers smile sounds similar to my current insurer, but, and a very big but, once I'd filled in all the paperwork, they refused to give me the value I'd asked for. Bit naughty really as they had taken my money, and the car was on risk.

Joe and I had worked out how much the agreed value should be, but the insurer was basing his value on book price. Wouldn't have it that the car was no longer subject to "Book Value" having had an 11 month full blown restoration.

I didn't get what I asked for either John and am currently waiting for further letter/report from Joe. I asked for 25k but they wouldn't go above 20K, again Im at risk of losing 5k in the event of a total loss.

Same here Bud, you know what work we put into the restoration, I'm not daft to expect to get £15K if I sold her, it is about protecting your investment in the case of an accident, but you know that.

I didnt have sufficient time to sort my insurance out last year as i left it to the last minute due to kitchen refurb stealing all my time and money so i stayed with glynwoods as it was just a renewal, great price just no agreed vale as per the start of the thread

This year my priority is agreed value as i felt let down by the ERS policy regarding agreed value especially as i did not see any small print and exclusions
Adrian Flux seemed ok price wise too so we shall see come october!

Go figure.

Okay, so they’ve shut down the Glynwood stuff and moved it all over. Got it.

Maybe someone can update PeteP’s locked thread about the club insurance scheme?

Tbh I think he's been looking at it as the conditions/deal previously hammered out with the club seem to have gone off course somewhat....

Heh, yeah. Having phoned them, I think you could say that.

They’ve never heard of any Fiat Coupé club … and their best quote for me was £880-something as opposed to my existing renewal quote of £241.

Pete is looking at insurance. At the moment we are not recommending Glynwood's new incarnation.

A problem is that we have two needs for insurance: firstly for those cars which are basically in good usable condition and used maybe daily, worth up to maybe five thousand - these need general insurance, maybe just TPFT. Second are those which have had a lot of money spent on restoration, some of which are now in better than showroom and are basically new cars - and logically, worth ten, fifteen, or twenty grand; maybe more. In such cases we want to be able to insure then at a higher, and often highly contentious, value, to protect the investment to some extent. These high agreed values much harder to agree with insurance companies.

In most cases as well we want recovery cover: most mainline recovery companies won't cover cars over fifteen years old.

Yet sadly there is not yet an understanding that the coupe is, or is becoming, a classic car: if your car is newer than 1997 forget it...

Not an easy task.

Totally understand – these are the same problems all modern classics have.

Ridiculously, I get the best prices (by a huge margin) from Direct Line nowadays. Even the specialist brokers I used to use in my Porsche owning days can’t come close.

I realise I’m sacrificing quality of service when needing to actually make any claims, but saving £500+ per year makes up for that – and they give a 10k mile allowance, permit commuting use, and include a free courtesy car. No classic specialist will match that.

As Neil says, I am starting to look at other insurers for our club members coupes.

If the cars were older it would be easy, unfortunately it may not be a quick process.

I chatted with Barnacle about this situation at the FCSS 10th anniversary celebration bash. And decided to sit back and see just what Academy would offer me.

Renewal is at end of month-yet nothing from them as of today.

This led me to be the one to ring them just now.

I've just simply been put back to a Glynwood office, and very nicely was told they are having to do everything manually as they are between two computer systems.

I'm told my quote is due to be with me by the 25th - 3 days before renewal on the 28th.

They couldn't give me a quote over the phone. I've asked them if they can send the quote in 7 days. Think that's reasonable-as I want to compare it.

Not feeling the love at the moment. And this year I'm not feeling like doing all the donkey work of pictures, forms and evidence- I end up working more as the customer then the firm I employ!!!!

Maybe they will make up for the customer service with a remarkably good quote...?

Will let you know when I hear!
