Good Afternoon,

I'm not sure of which forum is best to post this on, so if anyone can redirect me to the most appropriate section, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I have some good and bad news - the good news being my missus is pregnant, the bad news - I am going to have to sell my coupe frown

Just to give some background on the car, so that anyone reading gets the full picture (sorry if it goes on!)
I have owned the car since April 2016 when I bought it on a whim. Having previously owned two Lancia Delta HF Turbo's, I am a sucker for Italian cars!

The car is an S reg 20V Turbo in Scots Green, which was previously a CAT C (I believe due to a front end bump, as the bonnet is red underneath).

When I bought the car, it had a slight oil pressure issue, which when my wife had a go of the car turned into a hole in the bottom end of the engine! I sourced a replacement engine, which was then fitted, along with a brand new radiator, belts tensioners etc. Some of JBT's silicone hoses were also fitted whilst the engine swap was done.

Whilst doing the work, the structural integrity of the car was also checked.

The car ran like a dream and I drove it from Bradford to Aberdeen where I work with no issues at all. After a few weeks, the car wouldn't fire, so I bought all the relevant leads and the cause was down to the cam phase sensor. A brand new one was fitted when all the belts were replaced, but obviously something has gone wrong somewhere along the line. As a result of this, I was looking for a fix that didn't require doing all the belts etc again. I found that someone has produced a chip, so that in 1 in 3 attempts the car will start. (Very kindly sent to me for free!) After fitting this chip, the car was working great again and in all honesty it started pretty much on the key every time.

Driving to work a month or so ago, my exhaust manifold started to get very noisy, so I ordered another one (nearly new) with the intention of replacing mine and welding the old one up as a spare. But unfortunately the part has disappeared in transit, so I was on the lookout for another.

Then.... I got the news of my wife being pregnant. The following day I also found out I would be moving back to Yorkshire with my job.

So the coupe has to go unfortunately.

Engine and model: 2.0 20v Turbo
Mileage: 69.000 miles - (Engine believed to have had 95000)
Body colour: Scots Green
Interior colour and material: Black leather, in good condition, no rips, little wear - all original mats.
Manufactured in: 1998
Lots of previous receipts and MOT's
MOT until: April 2017
Known technical issues: Central door locking plays up, no alarm. Passenger window slow to go up, Centre console loose, previous owner put carbon fibre tape on it. Clock replaced by turbo gauge, indicator self cancelling doesn't work.
General condition in and out: Lacquer peel on the roof, inside of bonnet red, one slight dent NSR wheel arch interior is in a good condition
Modifications: Stainless rear exhaust.

Car is located in Aberdeen, if anyone fancies a look or can give a second opinion.

How much would I get for the car in it's current condition?

I don't want to break it, as it has a lot of potential. However, if I have to in order to get as much money as possible for it, I'd like to know what it'd be worth in parts as a ball park figure?

Once again, thanks for any information and sorry for going on for so long!

I will post pics when I get back to Aberdeen, as I'm currently away with work.

Just check the market value of coupe's on ebay and weep.
Then look at spares prices, work out if your time and effort to remove, box and ship is worth it. Then do you fancy a broken car sat outside you house in pieces for time, whilst you wait for parts buyers?
Personally sell as whole and take the hit! Cat C is the killer as the cars are cheap enough without history like that.

Recently sold my Coupe at the Beaulieu. Autojumble , which is where I bought it 2 years earlier for £1750.

I now wonder whether I sold it too cheaply. It’s good points were 2 owners ( ie I was the second one ) , 94k miles, serviced every year ( bar the 2 year SORN period ) ( service book shows this plus all service invoices from 2002 ( same semi specialist garage ) , the major service I had done after I purchased it included cam belt, aux belt, tensioner, water pump , brake fluid , 12 month Mot with a couple of minor advisories, no orange peal, bodily very good bar one minor rust point on l/h front lower bit of wheel arch. Underneath a rust proofing specialist ( he knew the car and it’s previous owner ! ) said pretty good he’d seen much worse but you need to spend money on it in a year or so to keep it good )
Minus points were non working A/C ( not just a recharge needed , the quote I got from a specialist was £1200 , and heater control was on or off . Oh and a slightly cloudy looking bonnet , noticeable in some lights .

Asked for £2995 and I sold it for £2400. Far too low I now think and I wasn’t be interested to receive comments .

Coupe sold 7 Sept 2021. Sad day.

It’s a 20VT I should have said.

Hi David - difficult to say really. Non-working a/c would have been a turn-off particularly with a quote like that shocked. And other little jobs to do all mount up. Sadly many buyers expect a pristine car and forget their age and the likelihood that jobs need doing. With a/c working I'd have expected closer to your asking price but 2nd hand car prices are fickle at the best of times. Anyway it's gone now so are you in the market for another coupe?

Btw that's a bit of a thread resurrection laugh

Market prices fluctuate as do the conditions of vehicles so really all one can do is follow the For Sale ads here and in motoring sections elsewhere to get a feel for price range.

There's nothing wrong with your question as you've already sold up but if you hadn't your post would be construed as a For Sale ad, at best in the wrong section!

It's interesting isn't it.

Any time you read a review, or watch something about a 1990's GTI, turbo, or coupe its always described as "classic" or "amazing fun" or "a time when cars were analogue and real fun" and "time to rediscover the magic".

Except you rarely see the fiat coupe mentioned.

Challenging at times due to scarcity of some parts? maybe. But where would you ever get the speed, looks and fun of a coupe for £1,700 - £2,500 now?

I just checked and a an escort RS is £60k. A Vauxhall Calibre £6-8K. An Astra GTE around £10k.

Can't see anything like the coup for as little at £2k anywhere else.

I know they are only worth what people are willing to pay. But what would you spend for similar performance and history? A lot more I would imagine.

Best,

MM

There doesn't appear to be much rhyme or reason to coop prices, I guess there are so few around that nobody knows where to pitch them, eg there are 2 very similar low mileage 20vt for sale, 1 at under 8k the other at nearer 12. Then you see really cheap ones for 2k.
Seems to me the VTs are worth a lot more than the N/As and the more standard are more than the tweaked ones.

Aye, I agree with the above. 14 years ago I purchased my Coupe for four grand, bargain, and it was in excellent condition. They were quite rare up here. For what they were, that was cheap. Only those in the know saw them for what they were. Today Coupes in good condition are pretty rare, and even then as said don’t command. Big money. They just don’t seem to attract a big following like other marks. Certain petrolheads will mention how fast they are, but that’s just about it.

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time
