Hi guys,

Got the car in my garage at the new house which is great and means I can do far more with it now.
The roof peel is very bad.
I know it needs a respray but would like to remove the remaining clear coat if possible.
Jet wash has removed some, would a very fine grit wet and dry be suitable?
Better removed than left on to be fair.

Thanks guys

Just be very careful if you try wet and dry.

I used 2000 grit on my roof, which is very fine but went straight through the paint.

Just make sure you don't end up rubbing the paint, as it's very thinly applied, so easy to go through.

It's the main reason I just left my clear coat to peel off itself either in the wind or at a jet wash laugh

Before I had mine rectified with a back to the metal roof respray I used a machine polisher which made it look a bit more presentable, nothing sorts it out other than new paint.

Yes respray is the only cure for sure which the whole car requires.

Just want to remove the scabs to be fair. I will try the jet washer again i think.

My advice would be leave it to whomever is doing the respray or you could make their job harder not easier.

I've just added a temporary solution for my roof peel - carbon effect vinyl:

I wasn't sure but figured the worst case scenario was losing about £40 for the vinyl and if I took it off it might take most of the remaining lacquer with it. I went for carbon effect as I hoped it would help hide the peeled areas which would show with gloss - it is partially effective at that.

It looks better than i hoped it would so I'll live with it until I can afford/justify a full respray of the car.
