Tough last couple of weeks with Eve getting a reactivation of cytomegalovirus and then a case of BK (another unpleasant virus). Today the results for both came back as clear so I hope we are through that. Another test tomorrow to confirm.

In the meantime young Hugh got the results he needed to get to Strathclyde to do software engineering. He's been a total star through all of this: looked after the house (kinda wink ), the 3 dogs, passed his driving test first time, got a job at Tesco and got his exam grades - at 17 all whilst his parents are away for 7 months looking after his seriously ill sister. It's no wonder he was chosen back in 2012 to carry the Olympic torch through the centre of Inverness.

By-the-by, Mrs MRS passed Higher Latin with an A. Some people run a marathon when they're 50, she decided to learn Latin from scratch.

You truly do have a gifted family, MRS.
Mind you, I'd expect nothing less from your son with such a great name, even if he has the second best spelling . (Smiley wouldn't go here).

Best wishes to you all, as ever.

Thank you.

I've gone from being a complete numpty on medical device quality systems and regulations to something of an expert in the last 12-15 years. That's been a really steep learning curve but I'm really glad I've done it as it has been a fantastic career move. I'm now learning about global domestic electronic product regulations. I don't think my brain has any more capacity wink

MRS Jnr2 got into University of Glasgow which is great as he'll be there when Eve eventually gets back. I like the idea that they can keep an eye on each other. Glasgow was going to reject Hughie out of hand but Eve shamed them on social media into looking properly at him. Brave girl - she was working on this whilst they were trying (and failing horribly) to fit her with a catheter. Tough kid.

What a great story!

Your kids (and you and Mrs MRS) could give lessons in resilience.

Latest test result shows that Eve is clear of any sign of leukaemia. Massive relief (and the odd tear) here.

Still a way to go to recover from transplant but obviously a massive hurdle.

Such great news. If I believed in it, I would now expect karma to bring Eve and all of you many good things. And may this be the last thread of its kind!

Jeeez, just finished reading both threads about Eve and the trials and tribulations you're all going through. I can't even imagine how (as a parent myself) you cope with one such diagnosis, let alone a second child having to endure something similar.

I know you sort of say you have no choice but to go through it once diagnosed, I get that, but you have all gone through it remarkably strongly and with what appears to be an especially close-knit togetherness which is totally admirable.

Like everyone else on here and no doubt in the real world, I wish Eve, Charlie and Hughie the very best in their young lives from this day forward, God knows they deserve it.
As for you and Mrs MRS I have nothing but total respect for the way you've coped and conducted yourselves. A proper example to anyone in this invidious position.

Thanks, Proccy, and everyone else.

I won't pretend it hasn't been tough because, by god, it has. I'm utterly forked and I know Mrs MRS is too - let alone Eve who has actually had to do the difficult bit. You have to learn to cut each other a lot of slack.

Something else I realised is this: Mrs MRS said that Eve can be so nasty to her at times. What I explained is that Eve is only nasty because she trusts us totally and knows she can vent at us. Mrs MRS has shared that insight with a few parents on the ward and it has really helped. Cancer treatment is brutal on everybody.

My boys have been great too - as have our extended families who feel pretty helpless, my colleagues, friends and you lot. As I said when Charlie was being treated: knowing that people are rooting for you when you go through the dark, scary, bits really helps.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. One day I'll have to introduce myself and Eve and Charlie to you all.

You make an excellent point there Richard, the mental effect can often be ignored as a co-habitant of physical problems. There's still a culture of "oh just get on with it" in spite of the recent realisations that serving armed forces for example have a tough time post-conflict.

Really can understand your point about Eve being able to vent with family members, without that safety valve I am sure it would have been much more difficult in many ways. Hope you all have some time for fun and family time moving forwards.
