I have a Clarion DXZ428R single cd-player head unit in my 20VT Plus. The car was produced in june 2000. Is that the head unit that was installed by Fiat when the car was new? Reason fpr asking is I want to preserve the originality of the car. Any input is appreciated.

I wouldn't bother, the sound and ergonomics of the Clarion units fitted to the Coupe are universally acknowledged to be dreaful. I don't think the DXZ428R is an original head unit, is it silver? Original head units for UK cars were the ARX7170R and ARX7370R. My Plus was originally a German supplied car and came with an equally awful Clarion PU-1573A, since replaced. Do yourself a favour and fit something better, forget originality in this case.

I agree with Dave. Any modern headunit is going to be leaps and bounds over the original equipment.

I have kept my original head unit and 6 disc changer should I ever sell it I’d refit but for now I enjoy a much improved sound smile

I know its not the best unit, by far, but as of now im interested the origin of the unit, and it it was supplied with the car. Its a bit nerdy, I know. smile

Ive contacted centro storico fiat and they have confirmed my car came the a radio/cd from the factory.

Yes the unit is silver. According to ePer the 20VT Plus were supplied with a Clarion PV 2194, but I can not find any info on that one anywhere. Cars without CD had the PF 1573. The pre -99 cars had the ARX 7370 R.
