Well I'm not. I'm just an uncle; and all I do is help one day a week.
A couple of snacks and a dinner and a few stories and songs.

Bloody hell its hard work! The lal-un has a new thing, first line of a nursery rhyme. @ 16 months.

So here's to all you (under) appreciated parents out there.
Well done you all.

My wife and I just had twins born in August

Sleep deprivation is a form of torture and boy are we suffering!

You think thats bad, wait till they get in their teens with the hormonal mood swings and slamming of doors.

Useful Hint: If they refuse to stop slamming their bedroom door, take the door off for a month.

It worked with both mine.

I used to be Allways asking my then teenage daughter to turn her music down so I could hear the tv.

It seemed to Allways fall on deaf ears.

So after about half an hour of not being listened too,a trip to the electric consumer unit was made and her room power breaker switch was turned off.
Not a happy daughter.

There can also be deliberate WiFi/internet outages, and dinners thrown away if they don't come down and eat within a reasonable time

WiFi restrictions, the modern day equivalent of sending to bed without any supper. Ours can be controlled on a per device basis from my phone so I can kick them off the network whilst still speaking to them without moving. evil

My son managed to slam a door so hard his hand went through the glass in it! Never seen so much blood! It was an ambulance job and later on an op to repair tendons. We thought he might never play piano again and that migt have been the case if one of the cuts had been half an inch lower.

But at least he doesn't slam doors any more?

Dave, he has not slammed a door since. Or lost his temper for that matter!

He also slammed doors when he was a toddler, until we said "Don't do that, you're scaring the fish!". Then he took to chucking the laundry clothes horse down the stairs instead.

Ah! The joys of parenthood! It's a wonder anyone survives it.

Now, he's just the sweetest, kindest, gentlest, most loving 23-year-old you could wish to meet!

That might me laugh far more than it should have done as I'm sat in the office supposedly working. I'd mention it at home later but I don't want to give them ideas!

OK.....

Firstly lalun gets really hangry and loves fruit, teacakes, peas and lasagna.

Bad news ....

My niece does not like being away from mum. When I look after her she is exited to see me but tells me to:
"Find mum!"
"Where is it!" when wanting mum (Trying to teach her she ATM)
"Mummy"

I carry here about when mums here with lal'uns back to me so she can see mum whilst being safe and I hug mum while carrying lal-un. To day I was doing some work on the PC and looking after the lal-one and I ask when I finish..:

(I live in a big place)

Shall we find mummy?
"yes"
You miss mummy?
"Yes"
You love mommy
"no" ( shakes head)

????????! WTF !????????

Find Jadey ( the (her) doggy)
Yes
Love Jadey?
"no" ( shakes head)
WTFF????

Find dog

Lal un "JAADEEEEE" serious excitement!

Find Mum

Muummieyyyyy!!!!!!! and does a dance practically jumping out my arms to get to mum. Clearly wants mum! Clearly loves mum. But must be getting "no love mum" signals from the some place (the ex) cry

Yes she loves her mum but her ex must be telling the lal-one that she does not.

That breaks my heart because the lal-one's world is her mum.

Soap opera update and more thanks to the unthanked.

Well lal-un now says "I want mum" "I love mummy" "Where is she?" and .... "Jack jack" "Wheres jack-jack?"

Dam she moves fast!

Thank You!
So thank you to all the parents and grandparents who kiss the bruises better when they fall down.

It's an honor with no explaining to be handed a book you've read a thousand tines and to be sat upon.
