Ordered some Christmas presents for Christmas as you do

Received a text message from royal Mail "signed for" stating delivered to you or a neighbour

This was left in an open storm porch,no doors, available for anybody to get at, I'm on a busy main rd and the signature was just a spelling of my surname obviously sign by the postie

Bearing in mind I have had a birthday card with money stolen recently I'm really not impressed!

Only thing stopping me complaining is fear of somebody loosing their job but I kind of feel so what, where would I of stood if somebody had stolen it? If I never received it.
It Was a links bracelet value almost £200

I am really annoyed

What do you think?

You received it, but you were given crap service by the delivery company.

Make a complaint to the delivery company and to the person you bought it from.

Difficult one, the Postie is trying to help you by saving you a trip to the sorting office (admittedly it also helps them by not having to take it back). Try to have a word with them and see if you can arrange a better solution for future deliveries which leaves them less vulnerable. Trouble is in December they have lots of temp staff so messages may not get passed on consistently.

I came home from a week away recently to find a box of 12 bottles of wine in front of my Coupe by the front door. It was slightly damp but contents all OK - someone sent it to me as a gift (very kind of them!) via Naked Wines and had emailed to check I had received it as tracking showed it delivered, I guess it was! No harm done but I wondered if anyone else delivering after it arrived was tempted.

I had some brake discs delivered to work recently, but rather than delivered to reception they were just put in a corner near the rear entrance - was only the security guard who found it.

They were trying to get me revved up to claim I hadn't received them, but thing was that I had. Yes, it was rubbish service, but there was no harm done ultimately so I'm of the view that just move on. There's enough proper rubbish to get really annoyed about

I don’t think H_R is asking whether or not he should claim he didn’t receive the goods, but whether he should make a complaint.

Personally I would write in, but I would try to be fair. The person is unlikely to lose their job unless they’ve done it many times before, in which case they ought to know better.

Our postman will often sign for things on our behalf and leave them in the porch, but we have that understanding with him. But we have doors on our porch and a gate and forecourt, Sonora less likely things will be stolen.

My thoughts are when you ordered the goods was there a section where you could leave delivery instructions for the postal worker, and did you fill this out? The value of the goods is above what is usually considered acceptable to leave outside and usually indicates a signed for item.

If they have not followed your instructions you could use that as the basis for a complaint. This might stop the issue happening again-and it seems to be a repeat issue due to what you say about the birthday card.

So the delivery agent may not lose their job, more a case of a training need perhaps. One thing seems for sure, say nothing and it is likely to happen again. My 2p worth smile

Hi sorry not replied I currently only have phone access no pc!

Yes I did receive the item and I'm not trying to be dishonest by saying I didn't receive, I just get annoyed with such shoddy service, it could be that they thought they were doing me a favour?

I have decided to turn a blind eye as I don't want to be the cause of somebody possibly losing a job!

I will however keep a mental note of this and possibly deal with it if something does go missing or it continues!

Appreciate all the comments

Maybe sort out a "safe" place which you can refer to on the order form...

I ordered three shirts a few months back that, despite the three day delivery I paid for, took two weeks to arrive. When they finally did, they were dumped in the remnants of a box that was totaly ripped to bits. I joked at the time that it must be a werewolf doing delivery (it was a full moon that night) it was that bad. The shirts were in plastic sleeves though and appeared undamaged so I just bit the bullet and didn't complain. Two weeks later, another three the same turned up! Obviously, I accepted their 'apology' laugh

They seem to ignore this whenever I order something and deliver it to my neighbour anyway... and I have to face his moaning. Something about working hours and sleeping during the day? I just call it even considering his van's alarm goes off all bloody night curse

I looked up a storage solution after reading this thread as, in my experience, someone else has always thought of a soluton to any problem and sure enough

Bit pricey but I've probably saved that much on delivery since getting Amazon Prime anyway...

I don't think the postie would lose his job over this, he would just be told not to do it again. I think you should make a complaint. We had a postie would leave stuff in full view of the road even if we were at home, he just didn't want to wait for us to open the door. I had two parcels go missing, one was vital medication.
