I've been looking at a project to play with for a while, another Coupe being one option.
Then got to thinking about cars from my youth which I never managed to own, and started looking close to home for something.
This popped up on my radar, a local car all its life, so had to have it.
It's home now, so now I need to make some garage space before I start on it.

I always like those old MR2’s, I’m a fan of the 80’s sing in general and that ticks all the boxes for me.

Will you give it a general restoration?

The pictures flatter its condition. It's been unused and sat outside for over 10 years and has suffered as a result.
It's all coming apart and being done properly.
It appears that it's never been welded and the usual arch and sill corrosion is much better than I could have hoped for too.

Arrh, Toyota's version of the X1/9.

A great car and, I believe, almost as much fun as an X1/9 to drive.

Sounds like you got a great project. Are you planning on keeping it original?

I think so. It's all original and unmodified so would be a pity to lose this.

Great cars and put to shame the mk2 and mk3 in my opinion. I had one a few years back and I was sad for selling it.
They are not quick by today's standards but show me a B road and there is only possibly an mx5 mk1 that I would enjoy more. Please keep us updated as I would love to see the progression back to its oem standard.

Looks lovely!

I am a bit bias towards the X1/9 for obvious reasons wink but in reality, the MR2 was a more modern version and I cant help but think that if Fiat had continued to develop the car with facelifts/engines etc, the MR2 would have been more or less the result.

I was once travelling through France and passed one on the way to the ferry, we acknowledged each other then an hour later, he drove past me in the ferry queue... while I was trying to get mine to start (well known for hot start issues) biglaugh

I still like them though, enjoy!

I had looked at the X19 as a project, and another Coupe, 205 GTI, Lotus Elite, TR7, MGB..... Can you tell I'm easily distracted crazy
