Hi, have just acquired a 97 20v turbo for restoration. First issue has been getting the correct rear calipers as local motor factor has supplied wrong ones twice. Can anyone give heads up on types fitted (from what I can gather they are different 47168>) and also reliable/knowledgeable source of parts for the car? Many thanks.

Good to see you won't need to find a spider for the mirror, every coop should have one!
Good luck with the restoration, looks like you've quite a job on.

Welcome to forum iainb, looks like a decent car under all the dirt!

Loads of info on parts on here, have a look at the buyers guide etc. Fiat eper will be able to give you part numbers for the bits you need.

There's a few specialists about the place, fcss, motormech, Midlands car servicing, alternative autos to name some off the top of my head. And Facebook has a number of active pages/groups.

Please don't move the spider on, she's your lucky charm!

Welcome to the forum Iain.

Are the Calipers seized? If so it is possible to unseize them and refurbish.

The slider line can be pulled out, lightly sanded, regreased and reassembled. It’s posisnle to do the same with the pistons and replace the seals.

Thanks for the welcome. Pleased to report she is essentially sound and now has an MOT, but with the wrong caliper on one side! Looks like there is an early and late and I currently have a late on an early.

Gunzi the piston was seized on one side and we decided just to get a pair of re-manufactured from the off. She is at my girlfriend's garage (handy girlfriend ;-)) for the initial work to get back on the road and so it was a case of quickest route to get it off the ramp and out of the way.

Hopefully picking up today and will then be able to start on some of the other tasks. Needs a complete suspension rebuild including all sub-frame mounts, roof needs painting as lacquer has gone. Centre console has gone brittle and needs replacing. Previous owner was a carpenter - see photo.

Morrison, Alternative Autos now this is bringing back some memories as had a couple of X1/9s in the late 80s and I'm sure I used Alternative Autos back then.

3rd pic given to me by previous owner, he was astonished when an identical Coupe pulled in for fuel at the next pump.

Hi Iain, im pretty sure the rear calipers on all 20v Turbo's should be the 'lucas' type... heres a pic of mine after they were refurbed:

Brilliant! laugh

Glad to hear she has a MOT, another one back on the road thumb

I like the petrol station photo that usually doesnt happen unless you’re near a car show.

OK so first drive on Friday and engine is sweet but suspension needs complete rebuild. 1st job is replacing the centre console as the sticky plastic is getting everywhere. Then a complete rebuild on the suspension from subframe mounts downwards.

Iainb, no need to replace the centre console, look on here for a how to remove it and then some nail varnish remover and elbow grease and it can be rubbed off. Buff it up and leave it ‘naked’ or respray with plasticoat...did mine a while ago makes the interior much more pleasant (especially if you do the handbrake tunnel too!!)...have fun smile

inky goodness!!

Thanks mr_nobut for that tip. I will try that with the handbrake console which has gone a bit sticky. The dash fascia is beyond repair and I have a replacement on the way from a breakers.

what an amazing resource thank you so much. I have got my Coupe Club pack through now and also Coupe Fiat book. So far I have replaced the rear calipers, handbrake cables, headlights buffed for MOT, oil and filter change. She's back on the road. New set of plugs has resolved misfire under load. Meant to do compression test whilst at it but forgot. Have a dash fascia on the way from a breakers so when that arrives will clean and refurb the interior. Then I will get stuck into the first big job which is suspension rebuild.

Love the picture of the wooden dash.
You'd pay a fortune for that in a Rolls smile

Love the Sprinty / tan colour combo too.

Enjoy your new motor.

Ain't no sound like a five pot Coupe love
