Anyone put a short shifter kit into the 20vt - really interested in getting one but wanted some experienced veterans to comment 
Any thoughts would be appreciated – it is the type that sits on top of the gearbox.

No need to spend loads on buying new linkages - it is possible to modify the standard linkage to give a shorter throw

Hi Nigel - That sounds promising - do you have a 'How to' or point me in the direction of who does?

Does the part that is moved come out of the original easily?

It is easy to fit and only works with the late twin cable gearbox, the early three cable is pin/bush where as this is the ball design.

Yes it is Joe as I fitted the brass inserts so these short shift kits are for the late 5/6 speed.

I was confused by how the talk of a later style short shift in the first post then switched to talk of the early style brass inserts.

To be clear (for the benefit of the OP) there are two types of shifter mechanism, the early type has the "knob" on the short arm, and under the gear stick leather gaiter, there is a steel tube with the lift up reverse lock cable on the left, fitted up to Oct 1997, chassis number below 52505.

The later type has a black plastic tube with 2 cables under the gear stick leather gaiter, fitted from Oct 1997 onwards, chassis number 52505 onwards.

(info largely from posts elsewhere by Joe)

This is probably where the thread went off track as Joe has shown the short shift for the early 3x cable box, brass inserts..........

Re short shifter I am sure (well think) my GTV V6 has the same box as the 6 speed Coupe? I bought the short shift plate for about £15 posted for it and it made a massive dfference to the shift feel and precision on the GTV, I have the older 5 speed box on my Coupe so not sure what to do as I can't believe how long the throw is standard.

How did a picture of my short shift make a short shift thread go off track then?
I don't think the op mentioned what gearbox he has. Or did I miss something?

No mate. I only stuck the pics up in response to Nigel's post.

There now! Nigel's fault?
