No red kay, but whats a code card? #197224

Hi. I've been offered a rather spiffing coop at a rather spiffing price that i cant really refuse!

Only real trouble is the red key was lost. Now i've read somewhere that i can find companies to replace the red key - any idea how much this would be?

Also - the car does come with a code card - what's this used for?

All these keys, fobs and cards, my head hurts.

TIA, Toby.

I can supply a complete set with red key for 150.

2 hours to fit.

But like me and most others you may never need one! As long as you get a spare cut.

5 years and 200+ coupe's and never the need for a red key here!

Seems a good price. It has the blue key, which i beleive is just a spare?

But the question still lingers - whats a code card?

I have a code card for my meta alarm, just a red peice of plastic with some numbers on. Nothing to do with the red key, just used to code extra alarm fobs.

I read somewhere in the manual that you can use the card numbers to get rid of the key code light on the dash, when accelerator is depressed in the correct sequence.

Emergency start procedure. Not needed

On the contrary, the CODE card is needed if your CODE system goes t!ts-up and refuses to send the 5 digit code to the ECU. Then you have to press the accelerator down and counts the flashes of the injector light to confirm the numbers one by one, and then it will flash an acknowledgment back at you, or not, in which case you start again. It seems you can try as many times as you like, it's not like Chip and PIN! But most people don't have the CODE card (it's like a blue credit card with a key symbol, plus the 5 digit emergency code and the mechanical code for ordering new keys for the original locks) I was using this method for about a month in the end before GrahamL reprogrammed my CODE box which had become corrupted after the battery went flat due to a still-unexplained power drain.
