I have just swapped back to my standard injectors so that I can get through the MOT emissions. This means changing back to the standard eprom but when I open up the Motronic this is what I see

Glued Eprom

This has really annoyed me as it's like concrete this stuff and I'm really strugging to remove it especially without damaging anything!! I daren't use any solvents and it's taking ages to scrape it away. What is/was the point in doing this FFS

Bad luck that's been potted, that won't come off easily without chemicals. Heat is your best friend...

Well after 1hr 45mins of careful cutting and scraping I was able to pry the chip without damage. It needed a bit of cleaning up on the connectors to remove all the epoxy but everything appears to fine with the standard chip back in place. I'll be making sure that doesn't happen again!!!

Well tbh Ross it's not just the emissions it's the fact my car is running way too rich in closed loop despite being a delight to drive. It needs sorting as it really shouldn't idle on 11.3 AFR

Leighton , remember that is a top secret 480ps chip there are many subversive agencies that would like to get a hold of it

480BHP = 486.7PS

Does that make it even more top secret?

I wonder what measures have been taken to secure the IP on the unichip maps?

Flea - does your AFR gauge show your car to be stoich on idle now it's on the standard chip?

No I haven't but I will speak to them over the next few days about this and a few other things. I can honestly understand their desire to protect the investment, there was talk about using an encryption board the same as Squadra, but I must admit I am a little annoyed despite finally resolving the issue. If they had asked me or even told me that would have been better but discovering it like this when I am in dire straits with obtaining a valid MOT it was frankly infuriating. There will always be occasions where swapping EPROMs will be required therefore gluing them in is a real hindrance especially when it is not necessary.

Very true about the gluing, however thats the reason you should have a dremel

Clearly the protection that it thinks it affords them (by glueing the thing in place) does not work. If someone was competent enough to copy the eprom in the first place then they would be competent enough to be able to remove the chip or copy it in situ.

(I would have used a hammer and chisel instead of a dremmel:))

Gtech-Flea (instead of 3).

Isn't the map specific to your car though ?

I am, thought i was being quite sensible there, my usual answer is "fire axe"...not that ive ever used one :s

As for your comment Sugarbear your damn right, its blatently not sufficient to stop copying...just sufficient enough to p155 people off!!!

The map is specific to Flea's car so it wouldn't be of any use in anyone elses.

Ken is right, it's very specific to my car so it really wouldn't be of any use unless you had a very similar spec When you get to this level of tuning it's very expensive if it goes wrong!

I'm sure they're not that bothered about IP as they had no qualms about checking out the maps of a well known chip provider on here

Edit: BTW, I consider gluing someone's EPROM without their prior consent vandalism

PT should NOT be gluing in the fcukking EPROM, it's not designed to be potted in

I'll be making my intentions clear to these nice chaps, as I would consider it necessary to notify me if this is ever take place,as agreed, if the chip ever were to be corrupted, how the fcuuk would you ever get it out, wihtou t damage

bit daft of them really they know that if you tewak the engine, then like the unichip, a new live map willl have to be emulated

but fair play to them, they are slowly getting there
