Hi folks not sure which forum this will get the most attention. I went to see the Pearlescent White Plus today as described by Munchkin in the for sale section. Basically its as described. An unmolested W reg turbo plus that looks and runs fine. The paper work and servicing seem up to scratch with all major work done. A few spots to touch up on the body work and the odd mark on the alloys but basically looks good.
So the only down side I can see is the milage- 92,000 in five years and the price .
Can any one help - How does the high milage really affect the car and does the asking price of £5995 reflect this.
As I'm sat here typing folks my heart is tugging at my wallet but my head is saying not so sure.
Help !! I don't want to miss this one if people think that it all sounds ok
Many thanks!!!

My 20VT has done 109K and is very reliable indeed. The suspension will need a complete overhaul if not done already, oil cooler pipes will probably need changing and the front brake calipers may need refurbing. Major engine-wise: the turbo and clutch might be on their way out but mine are original and seem fine.

I would buy a high-milage well maintained coupé over a slightly neglected ultra low milage one any day.

Hi Andy

I agree with Skins - Buy on condition rather than mileage - If it's in good nick, HPI clear and with good specialist history it's a lot of car, in a rare colour, for the money. Should hold its value well too.

Perhaps ask someone on here to look at it and give a second opinion?

Good luck!

Neal

The key word is history.. well maintained and look after by a specialist.

There should be a drawer full of receipts and paperwork on all the work it has had, especially in the last 2/3 years. Take along a local coop specialist (even to pay a few bob) its well worth it to be sure.

Usually looking in the engine bay, around the underside, seat/steering/pedal wear and tear should give you reasonable clues on whether to leave a little (refundable) deposit on it, in order to secure it.

Did you take any pics, and if so please post them. Make sure they are close-up ones.

Thanks for the replies guys. The car was serviced for its first two years by Fiat and the last three years by Wigan Paul. The paperwork all appears to be there with recent work including new exhaust (good quality), new wishbones and a recent new radiator. I took the frum buyers guide and it all seemed to match up Ie no smoke from turbo etc etc. The previous owner commuted to and from Germany hence the milage.
I have taken some pictures which I am transfering to my PC as we speak. If someone can tell me how to get them on then you can all see it. I was certainly wowed by it.
If any one would be willing to take a look for me and give an opinion I would certainly take them up on it
Andy

It's a coop specialist that's selling it. wjere has all the work been done Andy it's a lot of money for a high milage motor but I'd go along with others and trust the history rather than worry about ther mileage. No doubt WP will put some warranty on it but check the items already mentioned. Clutch, oil cooler pipes etc.

Must admit I never thought I'd be driving a 90k milage motor but thats what me coops coming up to and I'm quite pleased with it (quite nervous about it too)

Folks -thanks for all the distilled coupe wisdom.
I have had a chat with the mechanic who looks after my car and the consensus of opinion seems to be yes it is high milage but it looks very well looked after. The money is probably on the high side but there has been a lot of interest with it being somewhat rare colour. Apparently 8 calls today ranging from Scotland to London So.......
I've just rung and am putting a deposit down on it today.
Wigan Paul is offering a 3 month warranty. I'll try and get someone to come with me to view it before I take the rest of the money.
It will be ready and spruced up for the weekend and my birthday!!!!!!
Thanks once again folks and baring major disasters I'll be joining you all in coupe ownership
Andy

buy it. the young high mileage cars are usually in better mechanical shape then an older low mileage model which will have been sitting for most of its life rather than being used, leading to corrosion/rust setting in.

and its white, so buy it just for that reason!

Also remember that you should be able to knock some money off the price. How much depends how much interest they've had and how long they'd had it (not long from what I gather). My dad sells cars and I know he'd put £2000 profit across something unusual and rare like this to test the market (they had a 1999 alfa gtv v6 a couple of months ago and did the same with that and sold it within 3 days)

Wow that does look good

Is it the only one in the UK?

You'll have to wash it everyday but it'll be worth it!

Hope everything goes OK with this Andy, it does look gorgeous.

And despite the high miles, sounds like it's been well looked after, so I think it's priced pretty reasonably.

Deposit down? Looks a nice car!

Will require a lot of washing to keep it looking good as mentioned by LJW. I gave my yellow one a thorough wash on Saturday , took it for a 5 mile spin to dry off brakes then locked it in the garage. I have not brought it out since as I know it will get filthy almost immediately, roll on the summer

Would you knock any off if you were selling it and saw the interest it generated? Whoever buys that WILL pay the asking price...if I had the money, I know I would pay it.

When I was looking for my current coupe back in 2004 I remember calling up regarding a yellow 2000 model with 110,000 on the clock - I think it was priced at £5,250. I thought mileage was high but I was getting desperate - The salesmen stated that car was still there and asked what my offer was, I asked what he meant? - They had got so much interest that a bidding war had started! He already at £1,000 over the asking price!

Did I or did I not state in the same post that it would depend how much interest they'd had?!!

I am also interested in the car. Do I have the money though? No!

Like I say, my dad's in the trade and sometimes unusual stuff goes within days and other times (once with a Fiat Coupe, albeit an N/A) it takes 6 months. Not saying that this coop will be around for 6 months but then again, it's still for sale after 3 weeks, presumably, and not snapped up within minutes of going on autotrader

Yes I did buy it. I am picking the car up either tomorrow lunchtime ( If I can get out of work for long enough), failing that I will be picking it up first thing saturday morning and driving it home with a silly big grin on my face
