No doubt lots of people will be delighted. I do wonder how many of those will have read the auditor's report and taken on board a non-media/apolitical view.

If he was poor would anyone have cared?

It is very difficult to have sympathy for dear Fred, and this man has been at least partly responsible for the current state of the country. However this action has been brought on by mob politics. Goodwin did not intend to bankrupt the UK by his actions or inactions, he was just not as clever as he thought he was. He should never have received a knighthood in the first place, and the defrocking will not help the nation's finances in the slightest. Shadenfreude at best, wide-eyed envy at worst (fuelled by folk that listen in to our mobile phones evil ).

There was a very good point about risk on the radio.

If you take real risk and fail you end up losing everything. That is a good thing because you are limited by your desire to make money vs lose your shirt.

An ftse director only risks their reputation and seat on the board. They don't lose their house, their pension and there kids still get to go to private school.

We should make sure we recognise the difference between the two.

For the sake of a stable society we should not encourage those selfish enough to put their family security and education at risk?

"Moral indignation is just jealousy with a halo round it."

Saying that, I watched a recent documentary about RBS's downfall (deliberately trying to ignore media spin) and the takeover of the Dutch bank did seem to be a colossal misjudgement by Fred and the Board. Agree that he should probably never have been knighted in the first place.

I think its about time this has happened to fred the shred and i am not talking about the media blaming him for the downfall of RBS . Here is a man who was hated by everyone at RBS . Took massive risks and loss and rbs was bailed out by the taxpayer . Had an affair with a married RBS excutive . Got a super injunction to hide it mostly from his wife and she sent him packing .When RBS was bailed out by the taxpayer spent 6 months hiding in the south of france . Who fought hard to hold onto his massive pension . I wont be satisfied till he gets a public flogging preferably outside RBSs head office in bishopgate EC2.

I bet dear old Fred had some sleepless nights over it. Now he can look forward to knightless sleeps...

I don't see what difference it makes, being a 'knight' is a pointless title in the first place, shall we strip him of his scout badges next?

Dear monos, a secret truth.
