Hi yesterday I decided to fix my bonnet release mechanism.cut out old piece of broken wire and pulled it out, measured it just under 2meters, went to halfords and got a brake cable ,the guy cut one for me to the length 2 meters, went back to car fed it back through the old cable outer, got a termination crimp and cut the end from it to fit into small cut out then attached a 15 amp connector block to it and tightened it up,hey works brilliant and only took about 10 mins ,job done,

Well done, this is such a common occurrence. The no-panic howto avoids the risk of a greedy garage charging you for a complete assembly + labour.

Btw you can put up an avatar by going to Edit Profile in My Stuff so folk can identify your coop smile

The issue of fixing is clearly not so much of a mindbender, it's getting the bonnet to release without aggro in many cases.

a long slim slotted screwdriver through the grill just below bonnet, just to the left of centre prize towards drivers side and hey presto opened.if you look through the grill you will see the stub go to the left of that.

i couldnt manage to get my bonnet up using a screwdriver, probably wasnt doing it right....

was actually lucky when it came to my bonnet not opening, the cable itself was intact and was still on the resting piece. Turned out the spring on the bonnet just needed winding in to add tension for it to lock when shut, and so it could 'release' when pulled smile

I thought the slam panel had to come off? (bonus id it doesn't) Did you replace the full cable from the footwell to the loop bit at the the bonnet?
