Was working under the Coop earlier when i heard a loud bang, followed by the lovely sound of metal on tarmac. Scrambled out with all the grace of a three legged, pregnant elk, to see this...

They overtook a Fiesta ST a couple of hundred yards up the road & didn't slow down quite enough for the bend.

So, a moments silence please for my garden wall which has once again been demolished by an overconfident numpty...

And after only recently being rebuilt from this happening in February...

On the plus side, the Coop was once again untouched by flying debris. smile

Crumbs Jim,
what is in the water up there? Oh of course, a nice malt! Are your walls magnetic? Looks like a gorgeous part of the country,

Tim

I remember this wall saga frown Doesn't this continuous assault qualify for blackspot status Jim? More paint/signs, cough..traffic management, you know. An expert on traffic and the law on here [cough again] might have views on that.

Who rebuilds the wall btw?

And to echo a few, ye cannae whack the view this side of the border, eh? coffee

Glad you and the Coupe are ok Jim, but gutted for you about the wall again!

Maybe a white wall with black arrows may help in the future? laugh

Thanks folks, it is indeed a beautiful place to live. Would just be nice if the spontaneous visitors used the existing driveway when they wish to park and admire the scenery. rolleyes

It's not that the bend is by any means unmarked...

click to enlarge click to enlarge

...and there is a crash barrier around my front garden on the apex of the bend, but we have been refused permission for one at the side garden as the position of the driveway opening would apparently mean a dangerous end on the barrier.

The wall is rebuilt by whoever the insurance company contracts if we're lucky enough to get a copy of the vehicles registration, or myself if we aren't. This time i have their front bumper, including registration plate held hostage in my shed. laugh

Well, it's taken a while this time, but we were gently awakened an hour ago by the soothing, relaxing sounds of "screeching Transit in the fog" tm.

With a bit of luck, he might have wall-rebuilding tools in the back of the van...

After that he may have one leg shorter than the other so you may still be able to fit him in the coffin.

Sounds like the council could be trying harder to find a solution to this continual wall-oping.

That's 8 times in the last 12 months, by my count. The cars usually get damaged more than the wall, it's vans and buses that do the real damage.

You could try making a wooden box and painting it yellow and stick it on a post just before the corner so approaching vehicles think its a camera so making them slow down wink

laugh Not a bad idea. Decision has been made now though, we've had enough. Time to find a new house.

You can't move because of a few idiots.

Not sure who you'd speak to, but surely you've got a very good case for reviewing the road speed/speed camera installation.

Hope you can sort it. A real shame to be forced out.

My brother used to have a similar problem - he's had a car land on top of one of his cars and a car parked inside his utility room. He eventually built a sleeper-reinforced earth bank about 10ft high - that solved it wink

Total PITA though, jimbob

As above. While one appreciates your dyke-otomy a strongly-worded letter to the police and council (if you haven't already done so) oh, and social services too now that you have a nipper. You'd be amazed what health visitors can get put into action - ours got the water board in Clydebank to dig up the road faster than you could say shuggle ma coop.

Thanks folks, but there were already several factors causing us to consider moving, this is just tipping the scales in favour of it. Spending 45 minutes trying to settle a 7 month old baby before going to work isn't fun. You wouldn't believe just how loud a Transit going through a stone wall can be.

FWIW, there are no fixed speed cameras on rural roads around here.

Good luck with the sale.
Make sure you get the wall fixed for the photos and fingers crossed you don't get any 'unexpected' viewings. wink
