So I decided to take sediciRich's advise and instead of going for long 45mm wobbly bolts I decided to convert to studs.

Here's the reason why: click (thanks sediciRich).

click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlarge

Parts used:
- 70mm 9.9 tensile studs (20mm shorter parts which go into the hubs). FYI, H&R studs kit is 8.8 tensile.
- 28mm thread depth closed wobbly nuts (about 12 full turns to lock the wheels)
- 16mm billet aluminium hubcentric spacers
- Locktite head gasket black silicone sealant to keep the studs in place in the hubs (hope this will be enough).

For standard wheels I will be using either extended close nuts or standard size open ones. Unless off course standard wheels won't rub the arches with standard wheels on - yet to be checked.

I reckon that 54mm longs studs (70mm minus 16mm spacer I used) will be fine with no spacers and standard wheels?

Cheers,
Jack

In that link I didn't follow why they backed the studs off 1/2 a turn. This means they would be loose?

I have or had a similar stud converion. Without a doubt there was not enough variation in the nuts. Everything appeared fine but the studs had bent. I only clicked when I couldn't get any of the spacers off. Did you measure the variation in your wheel nuts? They look just like mine.

Heh, you did't read it properly;) you take a half turn off or otherwise the whole stress is on the last line of thread instead of being spread.

There's definately enough variation in the nuts. They allow 2mm variation each vay.

I hope it will work all fine.

Jack

Yeah thats what I read but I don't understand how it could be like that. If one thread is touching, all threads much be touching.

I read it the same as you. I think it may be more appropriate to a bottomed thread like you get in a cylinder head.

To the OP, I like your wheels, they look smart thumb

Thanks, they are Wolfrace's new range of track wheels - TrackReady Ultralite. Slightly heavier than Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2.
