Hi guys,
just trying to find out if this Head unit (ALPINE 7588rb)is any good??
Can't find any reviews online?
Made a MASSIVE school boy error today and bought one of these along with an alpine 12 disc changer.....
I didn't realise this was a cassette receiver as the model number wasn't in the Ad, all the info I had was it was 4x60 watts and I stupidly assumed it was one of the higher end alpines even if it was old!! I got a friend to collect it, I would have checked if I'd have gone, but it was actually advertised as cd player & cd changer!!
It's only cost me 50 quid for the 2 units, I'm just wondering how good the sound quality is of this unit, as if it's pretty good I don't mind installing it as I will have the changer anyways!
I'm assuming SQ will be pretty good as this HU retailed at around 400 quid.... I know tech has moved on massively since, but I was under the impression that some of the older alpines had better sq than some of the more modern ones?? No stranger to sq as I owned a nakamichi cd 400 many moons ago.... It blew me away!!
Be interested to find our a little more about this alpine???

Nick

Cor I remember these from years ago!! I always wanted an Alpine back then but couldn't afford one frown Yeah these were pretty expensive back then!!

Personally I'd stick it back up for sale mate as I don't use tapes anymore and rarely use CD's (mainly USB or iPhone) You'll probably get your money back on it so not a total loss.

If your after a SQ head unit that's not mega money, I'd recommend a Pioneer DEH-80PRS (I've got this and it's a fantastic unit, full of features that you'll usually expect in a £1,000+ high end unit. They're around £220 new but can be had a lot cheaper on eBay if your lucky

Another cracking one SQ unit is a Clarion CZ702, I really wanted this but they kept putting the release date off so after 3 or 4 months waiting I went for the pioneer instead.

Think I'll just put it in and have a listen first, it may surprise me? smile
I'm a little bit behind the times and I ONLY listen to cd's.... Never owned an iPod and what is a USB?? laugh
going get all my car stereo bits and bobs I've built up over the years and take them to a car audio specialist and get it set up properly, they'll have 2 alpine head units to chose from, also Polk audio component speakers, CDT (high end American brand) coaxials, fusion 6x9's, 2 amps, a JBL Sub in a box and also a Focal sub (speaker only) that I acquired, that may fit into the JBL box if it's better??!!

Should get a decent sound out of some of thIs lot!!??

No harm in trying it mate, these older Alpines are still great units smile
(A shop will charge a few quid though especially if the start ripping the interior out and route cables etc as it takes a while to do properly, try to DIY, its not that hard once you get into it) wink

What I'd do is run the components off one amp (the better one of the two, what brand are they btw? & what channel? ) then run the sub off the other from the head units RCA sub output. Just fit the rear speakers and run off the head units rear speaker outputs but keep them faded out unless you get rear passengers otherwise it'll pull the sound stage to the rear and muddle up the sound (sounds horrible & echoey)

Try the JBL sub and see how it sounds, the Focal might not be a straight swap as they tend to come in odd sizes (11" & 13") instead of the usual 10" & 12"
What Focal sub is it? I've just sold one! Should have really kept it frown

CDT are a very good brand cool I've never heard Polk but they're popular in the states and also very good.

Should sound nice mate! Definitely worth sound deadening to cut down on road noise & vibrations (makes a big difference if your after a SQ set up) wink

I wouldn't bother with Dynamat though as its well expensive, Silent Coat does the job and is around 1/2 the price!

Yeah I'm definitely going to do some sound deadening, front and back me thinks!!
Just been and and had a look at the focal sub, it's a '27k'...??
I think it's 11" so would bit the JBL enclosure with a bit of 'Butchery'.. smile
The amps are Sony & Jbl, both 4 channell, not sure of power rating but they're nothing special!!

Nick
