Just had notifications to my phone that there's been a sign in failure to gmail (3 in the last 30m) and separately a sign in error for a separate email account we have.

Nobody would be trying to validly access them at this time.

I have gone into both accounts and changed the different passwords I had for both (in each case from something very strong to another no less strong).

Presumably that's all I can sensibly do, but thoughts from people who understand these things are welcome. It's a bit disconcerting that someone appears to know both accounts are connected.

My Twitter account got hacked twice last week and my password was pretty strong both times. It's now stronger than He-Man and I can't remember for the life of me what it is.

Incidentally, for the record, I can't help you lose 20lbs.

So you think it might be Nicky Campbell? That guy really needs a proper hobby.

My Yahoo account was hacked in March, by a nice individual from Turkey.
The first i knew of it was when Simon (Edinburgh) emailed me about 20 minutes later to tell me he'd received a message from my account which obviously was not from me.

I changed the password and deleted my email address book, hasn't happened again... Yet.

They're still trying rolleyes

Good luck.

My Gmail is completely empty anyway. All contacts and emails are regularly wiped and it's not linked to anything of value.

I'm sure it would be easier to set up their own account if they wanted one that badly.

As you're getting notifications on your phone might it be an issue with the browser/app that your phone is using?

I'm no authority on this by the way, just thinking out loud.

gmail has a useful tool which lets you see when and where from , your account has been accessed.

Gotta smile, after reading this thread I got a mail from Yahoo saying someone in Columbia had attempted to access my mail box.
Maybe it was just someone on the marching powder getting confused smile

You could be right. I've now gone into the accounts via the phone using the new passwords and no more alerts.

Google would not email you, there would just be a notification when you next sign in.

If you have a phone that can support the app then get your account setup with two factor authentication. You can also set which mobile devices can access through this.

Removes all doubt.

I was going to say that. You have to be in the "old classic" view to see button. When I got something from a web site (multiple windows opening) I was concerned about a breach, and sure enough the G-mail tool told me that somebody (within 30min) tried to access my G-mail account from a mobile device in Turkey! grr

I thought Google was notorious for attempting to archive rather than delete emails they even warn that 60 days after you have deleted emails, they may still be present on their servers for an additional period of time:

Please be aware, residual copies of deleted messages and accounts may take up to 60 days to be deleted from our active servers and may remain in our backup systems for an additional period of time.

Surprisingly, mine's nice and quiet. But then, ninety percent or more of it is Papajohn's Pizza orders...
