Ok, I've had the Scirocco R for coming up to a year now and while it is a bloody fantastic car (and if anyone was thinking of a modern coupe replacement I would recommend it without any doubt) I want something slightly larger than the pretty small 2 door hatch/coupe.

I want to keep it a two door coupe as I'm not quite old enough for a 4 door just yet, so here's my short list:

1. Audi RS5
2. Merc C63 AMG
3. BMW M3

I want to keep it as a nice car to cruise around in but also have a good grin factor should I want to go off piste.

I'm not worried about economy so much so a V8 is acceptable hence the above list, what I don't want is a track focused car which isn't nice to drive day to day and I really want the use of the rear seats for when family and friends come over so no 911 or R8 on the list as much as I'd dearly love one.

What do you guys think? I'm going to look at a 2013 RS5 tomorrow, it looks like it has a nice spec level but its pretty pricey compared to the BM and Merc, both which have similar performance figures although I don't think they look as nice as the Audi.

Jim it only seems like 5 mins ago you were spending £££ on suspension wheels and exhaust for the Scirocco. Surely you'd stand to lose thousands if you sell up?

Coopless!

Out of your choices I would take the M3 Jim, I think it has the best pedigree and is likely the most sorted with regard to development over the years.

One vote for the Audi - better screwed together than the other two and a serious piece of kit!

AMG - but for one reason only. The noise they make. Fantastic.

1. Think of something witty and urbane
2. Imagine it written here

RS5 or Merc for me, with the Audi just pipping the C63. I love the shape if the basic A5 and the RS5 look absolutely mental in the flesh. Check out rs246 or SRS for owners feedback.

C63 every time.

Been at a family bbq today and the mrs' uncle turned up in his E63. The sound the engine makes is just something else.

Wouldn't let me drive it though cry

In the UK Mercedes have some terrific deals on the C63 in all body shapes at the mo. £6k down and £600 a month. The balloon is £27k after 3 years or hand it back. To say I'm tempted by an estate one doesn't cover it...

I personally think the BMW is the best all rounder and a real drivers car.
The AMG, as a few people say above the sound is FANTASTIC, but not as 'involved' as the M3.
Dont know too much about the Audi if im being honest, they do look smart though.

So, for me it would be first choice V8 M3, followed by the AMG.

I think you just need to take them all for a test drive, make sure you can get a good extended test drive in the M3 for some good bonding time. smile

I'm sure the AMG has the slowest Nurburgeringpiece time, but I have no doubt it'd be the most fun and the nicest place to sit.

Watching the F1 Medical car (which I think is a fettled C63 estate) having some drifting fun around the Barcelona track chasing the safety car was awesome. That noise...

M3 is available at 0% apr in the UK at the mo.

Funnily enough i was recently considering the following;

E63 AMG or M3.

But what i am going to plump for is Italian Coupe not German barge!

Still italian and the absolute bollox!

You can even pretend you're driving an LE coop in this red leather trim.

Jimbo why don't you plump for some American muscle? They looked fairly readily available last time I was over and you can have a European car anytime, but it's rare you'll get a right hook yank tank back in blighty?

I'm with you Johnny, I think the new style RS5 looks so much nicer than the M3 and seems to have a much higher spec without ticking all the options boxes.

An American muscle car is out, guys at work have had them, they last 2 months and they sell them, styled on a house brick, interior like a Sinclair Spectrum and handle like a slinky spring on a spiral staircase...just no!

"Bubble burts"

I think I'd feel a bit small in a 3 series. How'd you manage in that Scirocco? I had a landrover sport ans a 500 sel at my disposal and both of those were shrunk next to some of those stonking V8 trucks etc. Although I am looking forward to the next round in October where I once again have to take on those damn 6 lane roads....

Any way how about an RS7 (bit more people carrying capacity) or does it have to be 2 doors?

Test drove a 2011 red RS6 today, wowzers, a 5ltr V10 bi-turbo. It feels a much smaller car than it physically is. Power delivery is linear, insanely linear, it's only just coming on song at 120 and will just keep on pulling!

Spec is awesome, electric everything, lots of room in the rear too.

Viewed an RS5 which had surprisingly no room in the rear at all, and I'm serious, the Scirocco has more rear leg room than the RS5!!

Hmmmm

How about an A45 Amg? Or the CLA45 if you want more boot space? Cheaper than all of the cars above but still a great car. It's even faster than the specs suggest according to the reviews.

C6 RS6 are absolute monsters Jimbo. There are a fair few in the uk running only exhaust mods and a remap for 750bhp and 900nm evil

Zoiks..... That's enough torque to start a planet!! They aren't the prettiest of cars especially compared to the RS5, but oh my actual god, what a beast.
