Inspired by the diesel coupé thread I wondered which alternate power-plants the coupé could've/should've left the factory with?

I think it would've been nice to see a larger capacity 5 cylinder. So maybe the Stilo Abarth motor- if it existed at that point. A more relaxed drive from the extra torque would suit the coupé's character wonderfully.

But what do you all think?

One rule, it needs to be possible. No Ferrari engines because the coupé is Italian. It wouldn't fit under the bonnet.

Anything is possible smile

but if you want something that shares similar engine mounts etc, you could go with the Alfa v6 (preferably the 3.2) but i'm not sure of the work involved, plus the engine is heavier, and less tuneable.

..hmmm, or a 20vt into GTV twin spark with 330hp could be amusing ..always fancied a 20vt in a Mk1 TT..

I think that the mas engines of the time would have been a good range, 2.0 v6 entry all that way to the 24v twin turbo 2.8! Mmmmm and then we could've had dog leg boxes too!

But then that's a GTV. That doesn't handle as well as a GTV

I would like to have seen configurations as Alfa have been doing lately :

2.0 NA
1.9-2.4 Diesel
1750-2.0 turbo

I wouldn't be so sure about the Ferrari engines.

My ex boss made an 8.32 engine fit into a Stratos replica, so I'm sure it could be done in a Coupe laugh

True, so a 20vt GTV is the way to go driving you could even have a convertible!

A spider would be bent double backwards. The 210 bhp V6 was reduced in power to 197 as standard as to not compromise the chassis. Got a lighter flighwheel if I remember though, so Spiders are really reactive and are a blast revving at idle.
