I have the Blitz installed now and going through the road settings.

I have set the boost limiter and the ratio settings for the four different levels of boost.

From previous (now quite old) threads on the forum it appears others with this controller have been able to set the gain for different values dependant on which of the four channels it is operating on. I can only set the gain once i.e. it is the same for all channels. Even the manual doesn't refer to differing gain settings. It would be much better to have higher gain settings with the higher boost settings.

Any ideas from users of this equipment please?

I use the Blitz SBC ID III - (separate gain setting per channel). I would suggest you keep the figure quite low - anything above about 15 - 20 will lead to surging boost

I set mine to between 7 and 15

Nigel,

Thanks for the response. I believe my problem is that I have an elderly Dual SBC not the ID III.

For other reasons I can't road test the car until next week but was setting up the unit in readiness.

I have the four ratio settings as 8 ("wife" setting), 30 ("Normal"- quick and lively- approx. 1.1 bar), 40 ("Wow"- 1.2 bar) and 50 ("Cor Blimey G'vnor!- 1.3 bar). I have set the gain at the moment at 6.

What I had wanted to do was set it higher (until the spikes started) on other 3 settings, but I appear not to be able to.

I will now have to road test the safe maximum gain number and dial that in to the unit 'on the fly' when needed on settings 2,3 and 4- not ideal.

personally, I favour the low gain setting, even if you only have one across all four channels.

The higher settings are quite violent and can cause all sorts of problems for the drivetrain, as the boost arrives very quickly. With over 350bhp on call, you'll be shredding tyres, gulping fuel and burning clutches. I get 20,000+ from a clutch, 12,000 from front tyres and 26-28mpg, partly because I'm being a little bit gentle with how the power comes in.

Gentler power delivery also prevents earache and bruising from the passenger seat speed control unit.... wink

Nigel, thanks for your comments, particularly the last paragraph hehe

In fact, given that I have that powerful controller already, why did I ever get the Blitz!!! nono nono redcard

Road testing now complete!

Started with the boost limiter: set at 1.35 bar (Flea map max.) with -5 ratio. The peak hold meter registered 1.28bar so it is working fine.
Four set ratios started as: 1-5, 2-25, 3-35 , 4-50
Gain started at 6

Found that on setting 1 would only get to base boost (the intention- as a "wife" mode!) but boost very slow to pick up. On setting 4 would still only register 1.22 bar max, again with slow boost pickup.

Reset gain to 10: Better pickup but not as strong as the original EBV setup so reset again to 14 and finally 17- boost is now consistant and strong (where needed) but no over boost.

Reset four settings to: 1-5, 2-30, 3-45 and 4 -55; now on 4 gets to maximum boost without hitting the limiter ( now reading 1.32 bar peak).

Not too sure why the gain settings are higher than thought necessary- perhaps stage 3 hybrid turbocharger or 200 cell cat now on Blueflame system could be the reason- no idea, but happy that it seems to be working well.

Thanks to Nigel, Charlie Croker and Flea for their responses and to Mr T for bequeathing me the Blitz post mid-engine coupe project sell off.
Very happy all round as before the EBV would 'allow' a brief, and dangerous sortee into 1.5bar+ territory, now all is strong push all the way to the maximum boost pressure set by the 4 different settings. Even at setting 1 the car is far from slow!
