Have a GTX series turbo on a T25 internally wastegated.

The GTX was designed around a T3 housing for maximum flow.

Is there a way of changing to a T3 without huge expense?

Or any other ideas, thanks.

Still making good power, but the potential is there for more but the T25 is now restricting.....

Didn't Barbz and Biggenez use some sort of T25 to T3 adapter? I seem to remember they did, but it obviously dropped the turbo position by a couple of inches.

OK

GTX28 series was designed around a T28 series.

Well you'd need a GTX30 turbo for a start which is not cheap. Then a manifold.

What spec GTX do you have? why do you think it is restrictive? You could move to a larger GTX in the range if there is one.

Running a GTX28 series turbo with a T3 housing will not be of any benefit over a T28 housing.

It is possible to change the T25 flange to a T3, you just need someone who knows what they're doing and who also has access to heat treatment equipment.

Or as Alexis has said, use an adapter.

Sounds good, thanks for the ideas.

Scuderia - Its a GTX3071 .86 housing, they flow alot and to get the best out of it, it should be on a T3 housing. It was machined to fit a t25 housing.

How does that adapter work?

What else would I need? Just a T3 housing to go with the turbo?

Thanks.

OK fair enough, that turbo is a compromise to fit the T28 housing. But it's not just the T3 housing, it's the whole turbine. They have a special turbine wheel to fit the t28 housing. You cant just fit a T3 housing that that turbo, you'll need a new turbo.

Im a little lost now.

We bought the turbo/unit and the housing separate and sent it of as they needed to do some machine work of some sort to make it fit.
Is it not just a case of now swapping the housing from a t25 to a t3? (and use the adapter in the ebay link above?)

My knowledge is now becoming very limited, excuse

Forgive me if your turbo spec is common knowledge on the forum. I am only commenting on the information given in this thread. It is difficult to know which turbo you have exactly. Can you find part numbers maybe?

There are 2 different GT30 turbine wheels. The "proper" one is 60mm. If you have the 60mm turbine you can swap to a T3 housing without issue although there maybe minimal improvement.

Garrett also made a smaller 56mm turbine intended for internal wastegate T28 style turbine housings. These cannot obviously take a T3 housing designed for a 60mm wheel. These are the compromised turbo that should benefit from an upgrade.

If this is your Dad's turbo then you can swap over with any external wastegate T3 housing. It will require either a new manifold, or a T25/T3 adapter with wastegate takeoff for the standard manifold and also a new downpipe.

Give me a call if you want to talk it through!
