I'm hoping someone on here can help, where heating engineers have failed me....

Every 18 - 24 mths the zone control valves on our central heating fail (I'm saying this in the context on the 6th one starting to "wobble"). I would happily pay more for a better quality valve, but have been told that there isn't a better option available.

Given that everybody else seems to be able to last more than 2 years without having to replace a commonly failing part, I can't believe that there isn't a solution through either a better engineered part, or a redesigned part of the system to replace the valve with something more robust?

Am I just deluding myself, and I should just be glad it's not the middle of winter this time, or is there something better that I could look to go with?

It will be apparent from this that I don't live and breath Central heating systems, so please do let me know if further details of system types, etc are neede to help a poor (and slightly chilly) soul out!

Thank you in advance,
Simon

What is the make/model? By a coincidence I've just had a Sunvic SDM 1901 actuator repaired, but other problems on the boiler (thermostat and/or gas control valve) are preventing the heating from working without boiling over in style.

Having spent over £100 getting in 2 "specialists" who seem to disagree on the diagnosis, I'm loathed to waste any more money, I might as well pay the extra electric bill on heaters or extra clothing waiting for spring to arrive when warmer weather and/or a new extension will mean the whole lot will be ditched. Having said that, the old Glowworm 52B Super has lasted a very long time (30 years?)

Any specialists out there who could offer me some advice too?

It is the motor that seems to jam - I managed to get the valve open last night by forcing it with a screwdriver, but I'm failing sure it will only be a matter of time before it goes based on history..... that and the the fact that coming home to a cold house isn't really enjoyable either!

OK a couple of thoughts which may or may not be relevant.

Have you had the system flushed? if the system is sludged up this may put more strain on motor?

May be worth checking both sides valve for leaks as a pressure difference may also add more strain.
