Hi all, just joined the forum after purchasing a 20v Turbo, always fancied one so when family/life circumstances changed and when one came up locally I jumped in, probably a little too hastily, probably paid over the odds but I'm more or less happy.
She's a 98 and 79k on the clocks with an awesome interior, loads of work done including cambelt, new stainless exhaust, repaired and baked manifold, new wishbones, rebuilt turbo and loads of paperwork. I forgot to take my glasses when I went to look, I did notice some overspray on some parts under the bonnet, when asked the previous owner said it had been touched up, on closer inspection it's had a full re spray and not that well, the only other nark is the passenger window has proven to be lazy but only sometimes.
She drives really well and everything else seems to be ok, my question is....the handbook says the oil pressure guage should hover around the middle but mine is pretty much at the end of the scale, is this ok?
Thank you.

Depends which end of the scale. lol. They should read 3bar+ when cold and over 2000rpm or around the 2bar mark when hot idle returning to 3 when over 2000rpm.

Just got home so motor still warm will check tomorrow but it was fine 300 miles ago.
On a similar note, when I'm sat at lights etc there's often a smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin, any thoughts?

Thanks folks.
Going by your comments I think it's fine, it's 3 bar under normal conditions and hardly drops.
I just tried checking it warm and it's difficult to read I'll have to check oil tomorrow as cars warm at the mo, but it was fine 300 miles ago.
When I'm stopped at lights etc there's often a smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin???

Hey Doony,

welcome aboard!

did you go for the Portofino blue one that was for sale by any chance?

If you've got exhaust fumes in the cabin then I'd say you've got an exhaust manifold problem that is being ingested by the scuttle panel where the cabin heater feeds from.

Can you hear the exhaust manifold whistling when the car idles...?

Bonnet up obviously...

Hi, nope didn't get the Blue one, it's yellow and was purchased fairly locally to me.
There nothing obvious with regards to manifold, paperwork shows that it's been repaired previously and 'baked' to prevent it from reoccurring.

From what I can tell everything else seems above board, lots of paperwork to prove work done including recent thermostat, no obvious leaks, bonnet release works fine...what's chod?....just looked it up, coolant hose of death frown

I've had a nosey under the bonnet with the motor running and I can't figure out where the smell is coming from, it's not there all the time but when it is it's quite pungent and stings my nose so really annoying.

Try checking the exhaust flanges or for holes maybe it's that as it only smells when stationery.

Thanks Gripped, I've not got a garage and weather looking crappy for weekend but being new to this I'd really appreciate any help. I'll work it around you, I'll PM you my mobile, guess we can take it from there.
Don't wanna add pressure (lol) but it's the only thing that's marring my dream.
Everyone else, massive thanks for the welcome and support.

If it smells and is intermittent it's oil not exhaust fumes. My guess would beleaky rocker cover or oil feed to the turbo letting oil drip on a hot exhaust and burning off. You probably won't smell it on the move due to air flow.

Hello and welcome by the way!

Hello and welcome.

Put a teddy bear or a sticker over the oil pressure guage or this forum will make you crash the car looking at that instead of the road laugh

Don't listen to JBT... he's a cheerless sod although what he doesn't know about Coupes isn't worth knowing wink . he services all my Coupes although he is in Leicester and I'm in Kent.. rolleyes . Paranoia rules with Coupe ownership, but just check the oil and water religiously and the smiles available when driving will make it all worthwhile. Remember that you are dealing with a teenage car, and teenagers are bloody temperamental although good fun.

Just check and enjoy. I pulled mine into a garage today for a few sips of petrol and spent twenty minutes showing another customer around her.... love

Well I'm going to be doing a few hundred miles this weekend, I'll undoubtably report back.
