It's great. I really feel how fantastic it must be for her. I'm just wondering, though, how she would be able to understand speech straight off.

Any thoughts?

Listened to the moment she heard for the first time...it was genuinely breath taking, something we take for granted of course...but it was a thing of beauty.

With extreme difficulty.

We have a person at work who has been profoundly deaf from early childhood. She had an implant fitted two years ago and has still not fully mastered either talking or listening. In many cases sounds are physically painful for her, and she doesn't hear harmonic relationships.

We find ourselves in the intriguing position of having to be quiet in the office because she can't hear.
