In the interests of creating a few discussion threads to inject some life into the forum

Firstly, I'll make my own position clear - when Daytime Running Lights first came out, I thought they were quite good, simply because they were a bit different. I especially like some of the really slim LED versions.

However, now they have fallen into the realms of chav-dom with cheap Chinese kits, splattered randomly across the front ends of the usual council-estate fodder, I've decided I rather detest them.

However, there's another issue that is becoming prevalent as the dark evenings close in - people driving at dusk, or even dark, with what they *think* are their lights on, but in truth, they simply have some Christmas tree adornment on the front of their car, with the rear in complete darkness.

I spent ten miles on the M42 last night, furiously flashing my headlights at a woman in a Corsa with no rear lights on. I'd overtaken her to see if she had any front lights on (I'm always amazed at the number of people that drive around with no lights at all) - she completely ignored mine and many other driver's various attempts to attract her attention.

IMHO, DRLs should be banned, as they create more of a danger than they solve.

Alternatively, the owner should RTFM and work out what the "D" stands for.....

Agree, people driving in fog with just DRLs not realising they are nearly invisible from behind,

This is a major bugbear of mine too.
Along with sitting in the middle Lane through roadworks at 45mph 50mph speed limit when they're clearly not overtaking anything.
As somebody who drives up and down the countries crap roadwork infested motorway system every day, the very poor driving standard in this country drives me crackers.

And those running in fog with just side lights on.

16VT and X1/9 1500

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

I was followed along the M54 2 weeks ago by a VW T5 van which looked like a bloody christmas tree at the front!
It was splattered with 'drls' in white but also had blue led's all over it.
They were so bright I had to adjust my mirrors.

He switched them off sharpish though when a traffic car came past us. rolleyes

I don't see why?
They are headlights that are supposed to be on the car and can be adjusted to not blind people like some drl's do.

Only rare that it happens. I guess they think I've got my beams on. Amusing how misconception can trigger a sanctimonious response.
As for DRLs, perhaps they ought to be fitted front and back? Can't blame the tech, it's the person driving who is responsible.

I blame the 90's, when all cars had to have those 3 spoke wheels and the entire contents of Charlie Browns / Motor world attached to the car and it being "cool" to drive round with your fog lights on. Then next BMW for having "angel eyes" that really set the cat amongst the pigeons....
