Is it still possible to get a replacement Coupe windscreen?
I have noticed a new stone crack (not in the eye line) which needs attending to. frown

If you're a member of the AA they might be able to help - I got a replacement 2 or 3 years ago for a staggering £180 ish, and they came out to fit cool

I am an AA member!
Were you happy with the replacement (I think I have seen some horror stories on here).

BTW nice looking Porto advertised on fleabay tonight. Based in Cardiff but not sure if I can post the link? The owner seems to have tackled everything I have plus a respray.
Try searching Fiat Coupe Porto in Cars.

Yes it's been fine - no leaks, and such improvement on the old one which had gone starry with the breakdown of the laminate.

They have quoted £235 and then reduced it to £225 when I mentioned your price. smile
Pilkington's apparently supply the glass, but very few have a top tint, so I guess I'll keep it standard.
Thanks for the AA tip Simon....
The say the work will be guaranteed for the duration of my ownership of the car.
(My only question is whether I should have waited until after my planned respray!) crazy

As an alternative to improve twenty years of micro-impacts and scratches, which do tend to reduce visibility when driving into a setting or rising sun due to flare, I'm curious to know if anyone has any experience of windscreen polishing...

One could go mad with the cerium oxide, but windscreen glass is soft stuff and I'd hate to change the shape of it!

I've heard anecdotally that polishing is not really suitable for windscreens. I looked into it for my scratched--to-hell screen, and a replacement seems the best way to go.

Sounds like an interesting experiment Neil but I can't see how it would deal with the degrading film in between....

No, it wouldn't. I'm not sure whether it's even a good idea... but I kinda want to hang onto the original screen unless and until it cracks or gets so bad it's unusable.

As per this thread - theres a few horror stories out there especially with Autoglass but I had a replacement screen through my insurance via AA Autowindscreens and the chap that came out was superb. Real perfectionist. Re-used my original seal as they are also unavailable new now and I've had no problems at all with it. Reccomended

Well a quick update.
The AA Autowindscreens chap turned up Thursday pm with new glass. Sadly though he confirmed the rubber he had, would not sit flush and said he was unconfident the original rubber would come away without damage.

He said he was a perfectionist, but it struck me he would have carried on had I not intervened!

I am awaiting a refund, but remain a tad disappointed.
He confirmed the original screen is structurally sound and legal.

I guess at the end of the day alot of it comes down to the fitter who turns up and his experience/skill

Mark if you're looking to replace the front screen it would be a perfect time to resolve the corrosion in the scuttle bay as it'll make access easier.

Also I'm aware that there are new front screen available from Fiat with seals should anyone be interested.

Do you know if it is possible to get hold of the seals from Fiat separately Joe?
I suspect their new screen would be much more expensive than a Pilkington replacement?

Worth a try for sure.

I can however get you a new OE front seal for £57+del and vat if it doesn't work.

Could be, my X1/9 has the windscreen bonded in with a cut down Ford Sierra seal. (the old screen went milky after 32 years)

16VT and X1/9 1500

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

I'm sure I'll be taking you up on one of those Joe!

Slight change of subject but IIRC Pete - the X1/9 was one of the very first cars to have a bonded in screen - certainly in Europe................
