Can anyone help me ????

My coop was reared end over a year ago, very light damage (dented boot and damaged rear bumper that's it)
The insurance company wrote the car off, cat c.
I was compensated and have always retained the car and all the documents.
It was mentioned that I would need a Vic check but that really depended on who I was talking to.
I'm planning on getting car insured next week, mot doesn't run out until mid May.
Am I able to just go to the post office with my documents and tax the car ? Or is it Vic check and documents sent off etc ?

When my escort was written off cat c or d can't remember I just had to get it mot'd and that was it to satisfy the insurer
Best speak to the insurer to be certain
As far as I know a Vic check is to remove the car from the cat c register by satisfying that everything is repaired to a certain standard
Not required just to use the car!

A VIC check is always required after repair of a cat C damaged car (like mine was). You take it around to your local inspection place and they check that all the numbers match in the places you're not supposed to know about, and don't show any evidence of fiddling around.

You won't be able to watch this procedure.

Then you can get the MOT and have it taxed. Note that you don't need the tax to get to the VIC and MOT but it must be insured. You can't get the tax until the VIC flag is cleared.

Just for info: My old MR2 was Cat D and didn't need anything. I never had it fixed and although it was inspected just after the crash I believe they were only insurance valuation assessors.

Yes October this year but until then all classified vehicles will still need a VIC test.

To the OP, you'll need to check that your current MOT is still valid as it might of been cancelled due to the vehicle being written off.

If this is the case you will need a fresh MOT before you can drive the vehicle to the VIC test station, or of course the other option is transporting it there on a low loader.

Yeah, I got the order wrong in my comment above: first MOT then VIC then tax.

Just checked mot is still valid according to the gov site.
Looks like I would need a vic check then.
