Years and years of money, time and effort… and I came out of the house over the weekend to find it dead. My Coupé had had a full re-spray, new standard wheels, and a new exhaust fitted to get it looking as it should. To top it all off, it’d just recently had a proper wash and wax to get it where it was, and now this.

Will the spending never end?! I might never find one as good again anyway grr

No, the engine's fine and so is the paintwork. Let me explain. You see I've had the car for nearly 11 years now and it was without a key component right from the start. I've worked tirelessly over the years to acquire one. Sure, there have been times when there have been signs, but never the real OE example. I'm all about the OE look you see.

The full respray, new wheels, exhaust, little touches like new wipers, blanked off rear wiper painted sills, all of it. Everything cosmetic was all to get back that one thing all fccuk3rs want. I finally had one it now seems. To be honest, we hadn't really become acquainted just yet. It must have been impressed with the previously mentioned wash and wax because it chose my car! And now it's all over.

We're all aware of how rare the cars are now and, as the habitat of anything vanishes, we're all aware of what that means. I'm not even sure if there are any more around nowadays. I've certainly never seen one for sale on the forum and certainly never on eBay either. Now some little scrote has just snatched it away from right under my nose and even had the gall to stay there when confronted. Makes me sick.

It's one of those things that you cannot simply buy or do yourself. You never know when that moment that your Coupe is be deemed worthy will be. I fear it may never happen again frown

LOL - has your Coupe mirror spider died? - they are pretty much irreplaceable, although occasionally we get a breaker in with a live spider - been a while though

If I get another one, it will be advertised here first - asking price will be about £1,000, unless its one of the hairy ones, in which case you can have it for free <shudder>

Sounds like Nigel has cracked the elusive post from Trappy. I thought it was something like a dust cap, but when re-reading it with the knowledge of the spider, it seems to make sense.

Thanks for the offer Nigel but I'm confused as to how this would work? Do I just leave the car parked alongside another Coop in for breaking and pay you only if it chooses to jump over? I'd hate to give you £1,000 only to see it turn its nose up! Surely there has to be some consumer protection here?!

I guess, even if it did choose my car, this local Zebra Spider could just as easily turn up again, rip poor fred from his home and suck out his innards... Can you modify a Coupé wing mirror spider?

I just don't know what to do cry

Its all perfectly legit and just another of the valuable services that Motormech can offer the discerning (or distraught) Coupe owner

You'll get a proper stickyfoot, confirming your adoption

and we also offer a money back guarantee in case you don't get on with your new spider (not ALL of your money, understandably - there's a £875 admin charge to cover our reasonable expenses and disbursements)

As with many other Motormech products and services, we've never had an unhappy customer (in the case of wingmirror spiders, mostly down to the fact that we've never had a customer, but that's another story)

The actual transfer of the Spider is done very humanely - we leave the spider in the wingmirror from the car being dismantled. We remove the mirror from the car and send it by secure spidey-post to your address - the recommended transfer method is to tape the old mirror face to face with your existing mirror and after a couple of years, the spider will wander over. Note that your car may look a bit weird in the intervening period.

Please also note that right-hand drive spiders are increasingly rare and are generally less durable than the continental versions. Due the the generally inclement UK weather, the spiders have a hard time, especially in tuned cars, where the additional acceleration forces can cause disorientation. Please ensure that your heated mirrors work properly before fitting the new spider (and you though it was to de-mist the glass, didn't you....)

If you can put up with slightly less durable spiders, we can supply specially imported LHD versions at £10 less than the UK model, but these are sold as seen and cannot be guaranteed.

Over to you.... wink
