Hi everyone,

My names Adam, just joined the forum.

My beloved chery red 205 Gti written off 2 weeks ago. Fancy a change, I've been curious about these cars for a while so I'm doing a bit reading up about them.

Off to view a coupe 20v turbo on Monday so have been swatting up...

Any tips would be grateful. Obviously I'm aware service history is very important, all the usual car buying rules apply.

Thanks

Adam

Welcome.

Give this a read: http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=931827#Post931827

It's five years old now, so take what it says and double it...

Rust happens in the front wheel arches, in the floor pan, and around the boot seams - the latter is the most difficult and expensive to fix.

Thanks for the quick replies.

My other issue is insurance, with me being in London and not having a garage it seems no one will currently insure me which is bizarre!

I just tried Sarah at glynwood but she wasn't keen on the postcode!

It looks like you'll be moving house then!

A shame to hear about your 205, I've always fancied one.

Have a good read of the forum there is a massive wealth of info and lots of brains to pick.
I think it's only £10 now to become a member.
But give me a shout if I can be of any local use.

My Coupe looked like a bargain at £900 but it had to have £3,000 spent on it. I would take a mechanic with you if I were you!

Have you seen this one on eBay? Looks pretty good to me, if you like yellow:

It actually doesn't look too bad. A new boot lid and you should be right. Then you can have both!

I've got a 1.6 as well as my coupe, and they're very different cars. For me the coupe made a great everyday runner with the Peugeot being a great toy that you can enjoy B roads with.

Bit more than the obvious, it's also bumper and rear of car where tailgate meets...

Any more thoughts on the coupe would be welcome

Hey,

All was going very well till 30 minutes ago!

So I've viewed the car, drove well and paperwork backed it all up.

I've put a deposit down on it, planning to collect it at the weekend.

I was even getting reasonable insurance quotes online, somewhere around the £800 mark. I've just rang the provider with the lowest quote and because I was in the accident a month ago my quotes have all doubled to £1,600. Bearing in mind the accident was non fault and has been settled by the third party insurer with me retaining my NCB. Don't really know what to do, was getting excited about owning a coupe and now this. I don't understand how the insurers can justify increasing my premium when the crash wasn't caused by me. Any thoughts?

This seems to be the fashion, frustratingly. A couple of weeks ago the (admittedly octogenarian) radio personality and actress Sheila Hancock had hers rise to around £2,400 from under 1k according to a BBC news article - she'd had one minor disagreement IIRC where it was settled privately and one non-fault incident. frown

Have you tried Adrian Flux?

I'm not friends with AF at the moment; the specialist insurance I had on the kit turns out to have been a 'no refund on cancellation' policy... :grrr:
