Spotted this today all four wheels were the same! Looked like long bolts with spacers on but not sure!
Doesn't look to safe to me! Anybody know what it is?

They are shotgun shells covering the wheel bolts , I have seen it loads of times but the shells have been trimmed down so don't stick out so much .

But what's the relevance/point?

A bit like rusty Volkswagen's and the luggage on the roof rack!

Why?

I think it's so that if any of the wheel nuts come loose, the NRA in America gun down a few children.

Just as JC referenced, they are wheel nut indicators, to give the driver a visual on wether the nuts have moved/come loose/ been tampered with, part of the pre use checks you are meant to do as part of the Driver CPC

Robotrish, may I suggest you search "yellow pointy things" in the forum search engine?

I'd just like to point out - I saw some yellow pointy wheelnut thingies the other day which were *not* yellow. Perhaps they have some different function.

As an aside, I have calculated that my head weighs the same as approximately a thousand of the yellow pointy thingies.
