I know we all get them, but I'm becoming very irritated by one number in particular - 020 3198 8113.

The caller, always a young female with a Manchester area accent, asks me to confirm I've been in an accident that wasn't my fault (I've never been involved in any accident, at fault or otherwise).

She says she's calling from something sounding like Gaxo Customer Services although she says it very quickly, even when I asked her to repeat it. So that may not be exactly what they're called.

The first two times she called I told her I'd never been in an accident and she hung up before I could say anything else.

This morning they called again and I told them that I was signed up to the TPS and I wanted details of their business so I could make a complaint. Needless to say, she hung up again.

Google returns nothing on the number other than people complaining like me.

When I try to call the number it's not recognised and won't connect.

Is there anything I can do? It's not the end of the world but I have nothing to do today and they're annoying me now.

Tell them yes you had an accident that wasn't your fault, but it was very embarrassing. Only if they give their details will you tell them what happened. Then get their details and tell them you were on medication that made you sh~t your pants [obviously spin the story out as much as you want, that it is really embarrassing you don't know whether you can tell them] and can you make a claim? Oh and thanks for your details, which I will pass on to TPS.

Best thing to do with these people is to wind them up (assuming you have the time)

Them - "ever been in an accident that wasn't your fault?"
You - "yes"
Them - "wonderful - we can get you millions in compensation"
You - "fantastic - what do I have to do?"
Them - "Tell us all about it"
You - (invent some far-fetched story about something long-winded) - eg "Well, I was on holiday with my lovely wife Doris - we've been married 30 years - she's from Manchester as well - have you met her, she used to live in [name street]. Anyway, we were in [name dodgy seaside town] - its lovely there - have you ever been? oh, you really must, its lovely, especially when the daffodils come out. Anyway, I was driving along the esplanade, admiring the lovely sea view. I was in my Austin Metro - great little car, they don't make them like they used to you know. Have you ever had an Austin? You really should, much better than all this German rubbish. Anyway, while I was looking out to sea, I didn't notice that a seagull was in the road, and I'm ashamed to say, I hit it. I was going quite quickly, maybe 20mph, but I'm afraid the seagull didn't stand a chance and I killed it on the spot. It really wasn't my fault, but if there's compensation available, I'd like it as the modern pension is too low nowadays, but I guess someone has to pay for all these LOW-LIFE AMBULANCE-CHASING SCUM...
Them - "brrrrrrr......"

I told one of them I was fatally killed in my accident.

They put me through to another department :-)

I'm with Nigel on this one. If I have the time, I talk the biggest load of shite you could imagine. Using an irritated over the top accent makes me feel better as well.

Can be a pain in the backside all the same.

Mobile? If so just download a call blocker app and keep adding numbers. If you've got a few in your call history it saves a bit of time and a few calls. I have 17 numbers in mine to date and it blocks around 5 a week.

Glaxo Consiliary Service, according to the comments in this link: http://who-called.co.uk/Number/02031988113.

Still can't find any further info though frown

Just ignore the call when you see the number or answer the call and leave the phone connected while you go off and do other things.

No doubt about that then but start expecting hundreds of calls from undertakers rolleyes

If you're on TalkTalk you can block the number by dialling 14258 then the star key twice if that's any help.....

Your provider might also allow you to block any calls whose number has been withheld.

It looks like they're doing something like this to hide the real telephone number. This is because most people nowadays are wary of calls with withheld numbers or strange looking offshore ones so the nuisance callers are making it look like a real UK number.

This calls get right on my wick as I work from home during the middle of the week. If I get time I have a play with them.

Up yours Photobucket.

How about a competition for the most ridiculous story told to a nuisance caller.

Extra points for anything including Elvis, space flight, and the phrase "you weren't there man.. [in an American accent]"

I'm sure you could print off a comedy script to ready out.... now there's an idea. laugh

Most of my nuisance calls come through to the mobile which is set to silent so I don't get to answer them.
When check who's called if it's a number I don't recognise I use this website, and then add them to my reject list if they're flagged as cold callers.

Thanks all.

I like the idea of stringing them along for as long as possible.

I remember last year being contacted by an mature Indian/Pakistan sounding woman & she was very pushy on asking some questions. I certainly was not interested, be she became a bit on the rude side I thought, this was when I started being all facetious & down right stupid. She said all of a sudden....you really are just wasting my time, aren't you? Well I told her that it was she who phoned me.... laugh Not a happy woman at all.
