Wondering what people are thinking about this?

I think Theresa May is the right candidate although im uncertain of her support due to her unpopularity with the Police force

Gove i think has shown his true colours there is absolutely no way he should get the job as i think it seems clear of what his agenda has been all along regarding Boris! He also has a history with teachers doesn't he!

Dont think Jeremy Hunt is running now? he would also have history with doctors!

I dont know anything about the others, or have never heard of them

I also cannot believe the disarray in the Labour party! im not surprised there is no confidence in the market at present due to the political parties imploding! i think if both parties were ready for the situation then there would not be such negativity in the UK, so everybody hurry up and sort your shit out as you are supposed to be serving the British public and not your own personal agenda's

Regarding the vote to leave, If anything, at least it seems the political parties may start to take notice of the people of the UK, even if it ends being quashed by a parliamentary vote (which i doubt) at least the voice of the UK has been heard even if only breifly

^ I agree with your analysis..I have respect for May ..I have an acquaintance who works in the home office in quite a high position who thinks she is very impressive and has great intelligence... I think Gove is a bit to impractical and not of leadership quality

It's like being asked to pick your favourite terminal illness.

Gove and Hunt are universally hated. Crabb believes homosexuality can be cured.

May will get the nod and I'm comfortable enough with that. I don't envy her though, the term poisoned chalice has never been more appropriate.

Agree I think it would be worse than volunteering for the England managers job or even Manchester United managers job!

It's interesting that most of the papers today are talking about what a betrayal it is that Gove is now running and that Boris isn't.

Is it a conspiracy theory too far to suggest that Gove and Bojo are in cahoots and that this is a plan to ensure that neither of them has to sort out this mess?

I'm just glad Boris isn't standing. I like him, but didn't want him as PM.

As for Theresa, well I don't think there's room for two of us to run things around here nono laugh

Theresa 'might' laugh

@ali I wouldn't put it past anyone to form conspiracies laugh
On Gove's track record though, notwithstanding some of his extremely unpopular decisions, I think he is someone who genuinely believes in them and could well have discovered Boris letting down his guard at the 11th hour.

Although I initially thought Gove would make a committed leader but I can see May being a middle-of the-road steady hand.

I don't believe any of the media spin about treachery. I wish they would stop stirring - but that would mean, eventually, severe press censure. nono

Gove as prime minister would be an unmitigated disaster both for the Tories and the country.

He is MP for our next-door constituency where anything wearing a blue ribbon is guaranteed a win, but has done nothing to justify their faith in him.

He was a disaster in education, is proving the same for justice.

He will never prove competent as long as he has a hole in his arse, and NHS waiting lists at local Frimley Park Hospital are such that it could never be sewn up this side of a general election.

Well I live in that next door constituency of Surrey Heath, so Gove is my MP frown And yes it's true that it's a safe Tory seat, but it was interesting to see in the referendum that voting almost exactly matched the national result, I don't think he was campaigning locally at all. His stint in education has put plenty of people off. I do hope he doesn't win this vote, Theresa May seems a much more sensible and steady person to trust with the unenviable task of negotiating our exit from the EU.

Other than that, he's not too bad? laugh

May is the only choice really.

For some years now, (going back to MrsC's involvement in Government), May has been building a powerbase with the security agencies - drip-feeding fear of terrorism to the public to justify ever-tighter controls on the population. She has been planning for this moment and will be ruthless.
I am more frightened for this country under Theresa May than any other person.

The others are all craven sh1ts, but they are bickering children compared to May.

Be very afraid.

Jim I see where your going with this, but isn't that the sort of leader we need to get through the brexit interim period?

Good point. Although, on reflection, I'm not convinced that a megalomaniac dictator is my first choice to get me through anything.

What seems odd is that Jeremy Corbyn is currently being put through the wringer for not being forthright enough about staying in the EU - giving the EU 7 out of ten (which seems fair) - but Theresa May who was always going to be in the running once Cameron stepped down, came out on the Remain side but did absolute Jack to save it, and then gets zero opprobrium. What's all that about?

May's views on terrorism and her perpetual schemes to monitor internet use, metadata hoarding, banning encryption and so on concern me greatly - but I think there's little doubt that she will be the PM in short order.

Boris is out. Gove has shot himself in the foot. Crabb is an unknown (and politicians watch what happens when unknowns get elected, e.g. Corbyn). Leadsom is another who stabbed her boss, was way too shouty about brexit, and is not generally known. Fox still has stuff sticking to him over his escapades in hotels.

Its unbelievable that Liam Fox thinks everyone has forgotten about his good friend Adam Werrity. Its not so much the expenses angle, more the complete denial of his sexuality - just come out Liam, its ok.

Theresa May is a bit Skynet.
