I just did a quick search for this topc and came up with nothing! Is no-one interested, or has it been banned?

Anyway, I just want to point out that once again it has been declared

Too close to call!!

Don't panic, everyone.

Too close to call.

Why does this happen in almost every election?? There has to be a sensible reason, but for the life of me I can't imagine what it might be.

It's all too depressing for a topic - 320 million people and they choose between those two. It says everything about that country and why I could never live there.

Actually I brought up the Trump question back in March & you responded to this back then. Obviously it's closer now, but it really beggars belief even for American standards how this is panning out.

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

If only they had a first-past-the-post nationwide poll, such as one might have for e.g. EU membership.

Then it would be clear what path the nation should take... oh, wait...

Apropos of which: Today Trump was bundled off-stage at a rally because of fears that a lone protestor might have a gun (he didn't). Surely this is the party which not only advocates the personal carrying of guns, but has hinted loudly that they should be used to 'correct' politicians with whom one might disagree, should they be elected.

Why was he worried?

Putting aside all the racism, sexism, making fun of disabled people, etc. Why would anyone think Trump was a good choice to be in charge of the world's largest economy?

My theory is that people are hoping that whoever wins will be immediately impeached or assassinated, and that their more moderate and on the whole more likeable vice-presidents will be who they get instead.

However bad our politicians are, and by god, they've demonstrated recently that they are very bad indeed, I still cannot imagine a Britain where the public would stand for someone trying to be elected when about to go on trial for racketeering and child rape.

It's no surprise that Trump has been supported by Farage. Putting aside that they are both racist idiots, some of their popularity comes from the fact that they are different from the typical career politicians (a term that pretty much totally describes Clinton).

I need to learn to listen to polls and then take the opposite view - how do they keep getting it so wrong?

First Brexit and now Trump

Still, it should claw back some of Sterling's losses since June....

I'm not sure it will claw anything back, the dollar will just tank like the pound after brexit.

Just shows we don't have a monopoly on electoral stupidity.

Not just the dollar, but Trump and Putin in charge of their respective countries?

Recipe for Armageddon potentially.

I'm as dismayed as you are Pete. I can't believe this result has actually happened - less likely I thought even than the Brexit result.

But this is democracy at work and now with the benefit of hindsight that same democracy has to prevent the nightmares of the 1930's and 40's happening again while trying to make this new situation work - somehow. Complacency on the democrat side has to be a factor, not believing that the establishment can be overturned.

Looking on the glass half-full side, if Trump aims to be on good terms with Putin that's equivalent to Roosevelt meeting regularly with Stalin in the day. Both pairs were/are political enemies but admire(d) each other on a personal level - it's better (as Roosevelt stated) to know your enemy and get on with them than to have fingers too close to the nuclear button.

As for the new POTUS' shocking remarks touching on racism, misogynism and everything else I've no answer and it's unforgiveable. What baffles me is how feminists can suffer his treatment of women and still vote for him.

What have they got to lose, they already have a broken political system so why vote in another politician. Give the hotel building, tv show hosting misogynist a chance at fixing it.

With Europe breaking up, and Trump sure to drag usa down, it kinda opens the way for Chinese/east asian dominance. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, who knows, it just fulfils a few predictions that have been knocking around.
