Hi All,

Hopefully this is in the right place! I've recently re-joined the forum having now purchased Coupe number 3 (number 1 went "Bang", number 2 was sold as needed a diesel).

Anyway, I've got a small "To Do" list for this one - purely cosmetic as it drives very well and holds good oil pressure. One of the things I'm doing is fitting a set of Plus dials and clock which I bought on here a while back. Only thing stopping me fitting them right away is that the odometer obviously isn't right for my car. Does anyone know of a way I can have the dials altered in order to display the correct mileage?

Cheers!

Jay

There's no particular method or "trick" to doing this, you have to take the whole thing apart to get right down to the rotating dials, reset them by hand and then put everything back together.

It takes maybe 10-15 mins once you have the instrument cluster out of the dash.

Indeed,in fact it is stupidly easy to do.

Cool, thanks chaps! I'll give it a go this week. I already bought a new "pinin farina" badge just in case I destroy this one in my attempt to remove!!

Cheers,

J

Slide a piece of paper behind the badge in between the pins to prevent scratches, then push the centre of the badge up with you thumbs to reveal the hole hiding the centre 3mm allen retaining screw, page 183 of the Coupé Fiat manual.

Pininfarina badge.....

Run the engine till warm whilst directing the centre cabin vents directly at the badge - makes it warm, relaxed and supple and more forgiving to manipulation than it would be otherwise when it really is a strip of brittle plastic.

Particularily seeing as you are now doing it in the cold of Autumn/Winter !.

Ive done mine on both cars (without wincing !)with this method first. You cant make it worse by giving it a try ?.

Hi again,

Okay so gave it a go today (little later than planned). Decided to try out changing the odometer on the old dials before attempting it on the Plus dials just to be safe!

Managed to get the dials out fairly easily - pushed the pinin farina badge up, no problems there! Took the screws out of the dials and removed the plastic screen which gave me acces to the odometer. They seem to be fairly difficult to move and it looks like there are cogs in the back holding the digits in place.

Question is - do I need to remove the speedo needle, rev counter needle, few nuts at the rear, and take the speedo / rev counter out too? If I do that, looks like I can access the cogs and disconnect them while I move the odometer figures.

Or am I massively over complicating it and do I just force the digits back??

Have a look at this pic . you've got two shafts that can be popped from the white plastic frame and then spend a bit of time juggling the cogs all around!.

Not sure if its safe to attempt to do this with the dial face still in situ - anyone else know ?

The reason why mine had to dismantled was because the speedo stopped working (crazy readings or zero)- whittled down to a dead transistor that was cooked. All replaced, but now with a heatsink for future survivability !

You don't tackle this from the front so don't touch the needle or the screws.
The speedo pod needs to be removed from the rear casing, it's very easy to mess this up so if you're willing to cover courier costs and send me a piture of your present mileage I'll adjust the mileage for you foc.
