I believe it can be done but only a few people know how, and would unlikely be willing to spread the knowledge for obvious reasons. Suggest you contact one of the specialists. Joe at F.C.S.S. has just changed mine. He added 52,346 miles though!
F****** b****** thing...

Using a drill to wind back (or forwards) tends to melt the internal plastic gears after a while. Ask me how I know...
Neil It's all becoming clear, wait for Brexit, sneak off to Germany and live off the proceeds of your sordid autobiography! Don't forget Interpol!

Caution respace attempting to wind Neil up, let alone wind him back! I'll leave it up to Interpol or the German police to wind him in for his past misdemeanours!

It's a fiddly job and has to be done carefully to make sure all the digits line up properly afterwards. I can do it in a couple of hours now, but the first time took more like 3+ hours
PS - I've only ever done it when replacing dead clocks on a car brought into Motormech for work and even then, I would set it to the same mileage as the clocks that were coming off, or an appropriate mileage based on MOTs or other evidence
