I wonder if the costs to visit the UK return are just as extortionate for the European guys... chinny

Still costs me around 230 quid return on the chunnel, but they've got really soggy and hard to light about actually travelling on the train you booked, rather than within a couple of hours as they used to operate. We were delayed last time after a huge motorway closure in Germany and got charged an extra forty quid or so...

(And they keep asking me 'we noticed that your registered address is in the UK but you're booking Calais-Folkestone as the first leg: are you sure? laugh )

Well, prices have risen a little I believe, but earlier this year, our ferry trip (Dieppe to Newhaven and back) was 92.80€ , although noted that other routes were considerably more pricey!

Ok, over here we aren't sure where this information has come from. I'm in regular contact with the organiser and the last message was 'still no date unfortunately'.

However it's probably about time he had another message.....

Update - I would stress to everyone that although the dates above have been mentioned we still don't have confirmation. It seems that local bureaucracy takes its time just as much as elsewhere. Communication is admirably prompt though so I have every confidence we will be told 'as soon as'.

Whilst we wait for confirmation, can you guys give an idea of the journey time please. Is it two days/one night to get to Turin? #excited

From IJmuiden it's around 730-odd miles so if you don't mind two serious driving days then yes.

Calais is a bit less, just under 660 according to google.

Calais to Turin takes roughly 14hrs driving time, myself I'd prefer to split that up to 2 stops arriving at the third day. I'm thinking Strasbourg for the first night which is 6hrs from Calais, then Geneva for the second stop over leaving a comfy hop down to Turin for a Friday check in.

If you're in the south of England, you can make it to Dijon or Beaune on day1, then reach Turin via the Mont Blanc tunnel easily on day 2. For a more relaxed schedule, maybe stop at Troyes on day 1, then Aosta, just over the border is a lovely overnight stay, foillowed by a short hop to Turin.

Last time we followed the autobahns, so France, Belgium, Germany, and stopped at Ulm in the south of Germany. We'll do something similar this year, but depending on circumstances, probably starting from Berlin and coming down through Austria into Italy (the same way we go to Slovenia every year).

However, the timing of other commitments - I need the French Thing[tm] in both France and Slovenia either side of the Turin trip might mean we actually come and go direct from England. Dunno yet... but for me, a two day trip. A fourteen hour projection is fine when it works, but when it turns into several hours more it's a bit of a bugger. Our return from Calais to Berlin last month should have taken eight hours, but took eighteen due to accidents and motorway closures.

For the way there we will follow what others do who pass through The Netherlands.
After the event, the wife and I will add a week of holiday in Piemonte. Probably going camping. Never been there!

Simon - can we have an update please where negotiations are at as this is frankly getting very frustrating as costs are now growing frown The Italian Club said they'd know 3 months ago but still we're no further forward. Are they experiencing any barriers with the council and if so what are they? Car volume issues etc etc...

Indeed Alan it is frustrating.

As you see above I was last in touch on the 19th Dec and the dates are still not forthcoming.

Now the New Year/Epiphany is almost over I hope things will move very soon.

Turin,Italy,
Hi all,
Im Luca from Fiat Coupe club Italy, and Im one of the team organizing the 30th anniversary of the coupe.
We have good news.
We are very glad to inform you that the 30th anniversary meeting of the FIAT Coupe will be held in Turin on the 14th (starting around 3pm), 15th and 16th June 2024. We are now working to organize the days, so as to satisfy everyone's expectations, as done in 2004, 2014 and 2019.
The preparation of the website is underway and we hope to open registration for the event in March 2024 at the latest.
Stay tuned.

Well that’s me out!
Of all the weekends to pick, it’s the one my head chef is getting married, and being 2 chefs down will be disastrous for my business.
See you at the 40th, I’ll be retired by then rolleyes

He hung on til the end of November to finalise the date but nothing was coming out from Europe so had no choice but to finalise things.

How long have we been asking?

I have been in touch with Luca since 1st July, he has been very communicative although unable to confirm dates until today.

I have a feeling that I'm not now going to make it. May would have been ideal, even up to end of May / beginning of June, but currently we have visitors here, getting in before the French holidays start in July.

Everything gets too busy then, and hot, so we tend to stay local or find nice 'non-tourist' / non-holiday places to go!

At least we have until March time to see if it's still possible!

Finally yipee That's great news but sorry for those who are unable to make it frown

Simon - can you ask 1) if they are negotiating any hotel deals or we sort ourselves out and 2) have the Turin council put a limit on attendance? Do they know that for the moment, at least 35 UK cars may be attending?

smile

Doh - realised I could have asked Luca directly myself rolleyes

Turin,Italy,
Hi G_man, and all of you guys.
1) We are negotiating with an hotel. After registering via the website (which we are preparing), you will be sent booking instructions (we have agreed a rate that can also be used for the days before or after the meeting, should anyone wish to arrive earlier or stay for additional days after the meeting) .
2) At the moment we have not yet been able to talk about this with the local police, but as happened in previous editions we will have to agree with them on the maximum number of participants.
Regarding booking for participation in the event, as happened in previous editions, we will first open the site for bookings of crews coming from Italian regions and then the site in English for bookings of crews coming from abroad.
We hope to be able to welcome around 100 - 120 crews in total (it depends a lot on what we can get from the local police)
